DHEA supplementation for IVF / low ovarian reserve

Hey guys! There’s hype online about DHEA supplementation for people with diminished ovarian reserve (DOR). Online it states dosage 25-75mg. I’ve been on 25mg and I’ve had my bloods done and my DHEA is above normal range. Is this the idea? Online is doesn’t say if it’s given only to people with low levels, it suggests it’s given to those with DOR and not for low levels. Can anyone help? I’m due to move clinics and I don’t now if I should stop taking it as it appears to be a golden supplement. TIA ❤️

Did you test your testosterone level as well? Did your clinic not suggest whether to keep taking it or not?

@Lucie my testosterone is almost out of normal range and in the high side. It’s 1.67umol (so still considered normal) I forgot to ask before we were discharged and I’ve emailed but no reply. 🙃

Im sure the DHEA is to help increase testosterone so if yours is normal I wouldn’t have thought you needed to supplement with it? You need to test DHEAS not DHEA levels

@Lucie yes, DHEA-S. They give it for up to 4 months before ivf / ovulation induction for those with dimished ovarian reserve and I think they do it independently of testosterone unless it’s high or PCOS. Guidance was very loose so I need to ask someone somewhere. I thought someone in here might have had it included in their protocol with DOR and know a bit more than me.

I’ve taken it in the past for my rounds but have never really got a definitive answer! I’ve taken 25mg 3x a day for a few months which I think was too much and I’ve also taken 25mg once a day for a few months and that embryo hasn’t worked out 🤷🏼‍♀️

@Lucie I’ve spent all night researching but still can’t find an answer. So many seem to be just told to take it without monitoring but surely if your levels are too high it will prevent fertilisation or implantation. I’ll keep reading! Are you now trying naturally? X

Yeh I always struggled to find info too! But what I did find was if you take it your meant to have your levels tested regularly to make sure you don’t take too much 🤷🏼‍♀️ No I’m in the process of waiting to do a FET

@Lucie I’ve sent my bloods to my doctor and hope that someone picks them up. I keep reading online that there seem to be just given out for over 40s with very low eggs. And for long periods. I took it for two weeks in May and got pregnant. We lost the baby at 9 weeks so for the last fortnight I took it again and I’m already high on my bloods at 25mcg.
