Any other two mom families in here?

When are you planning to start your second parent adoption? Have you found a lawyer yet?

Hi, where I live it's legal to have your partners name on the birth certificate if your married. I know that some states don't have it. I know technically that is just a paper but it's nice to have! I was engaged and my partner and I started talking to a lawyer before I was pregnant, while we were trying to know everything we had to do. Our plan was to start the process about a week after the baby was born to give us time to breathe and adjust, but we had a lawyer as soon as we started trying. It's all mute now lol, but that was my plan. Now I'm a single mom to be and more than excited. My friend and her partner started the process of talking to a lawyer when she was in her second trimester and went through the process of adoption when the baby was a few days old so they both had legal rights over medical say because their baby was a bit sick when he was born.

Another couple in my circle didn't talk to a lawyer until the baby was born and started the process when thier little girl was roughly a few months old. They just wanted to make sure the adoption process when through before she started preschool so they both had full rights over medical and education decisions.

So it all depends on what you want to do 🥰 their is no right answer and depending on the state it can take different lengths of time. I know that doesn't help, but it's up to you and what your top priority is 🥰 I would personally start talking to a lawyer now so you know what you have to do and the process. Then enjoy the baby for a few weeks and family time and then go through the process.
