Midwifes

Hey everyone, I'm new-ish in the country and this is my first pregnancy! (5 weeks old) I haven't met my midwife yet. But I hear I can ask anything to them? But I'm still nervous. What should I expect?

Hello! Normally you meet your midwife between 8-10 weeks! So don’t worry that you haven’t xx

I'd recommend getting an app like pregnancy+ or a period tracker app like Flo that has a pregnancy setting. You get to track it there and it gives you useful information if you have questions 😊 if you have medical need, such as pain or bleeding etc you can contact your local hospital early pregnancy unit or maternity suite to help you x

Have you self refferred yourself on the nhs website? If not maybe a phone call to your GP and they can advise which steps to take. (Different areas have different rules) I'm currently 10w6 and had my first appointment today and my next week be my dating scan in the next couple of weeks. That's just a rough guideline xx

Thanks, @Kiah @Ella That's good to know because I was expecting to meet them earlier. I called them a few days ago, and now I am waiting to be referred to a midwife. I just don't know how the process works with midwives. Will they inform me just about medical stuff, or are they there to answer any pregnancy-related questions? How often I'll meet them? Will they be there after birth or ofls it another medical professional that will handle that period? Etc etc 😓

Thanks @Natalie I have Flo, you're right it is a great help indeed 👌

@Nice at your first appointment they’ll go through all your details and answer any questions you have. They roughly see you every 6ish weeks, but you can contact them at anytime. If it’s the same as it was when I had my son 9 years ago, I believe you do see them once or twice after birth but you also get a health visitor who will visit you the first few weeks after baby is born x

@Nice you might find this useful, it lays out all the appointments you can expect https://www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/your-pregnancy-care/your-antenatal-appointments/ Your midwife will be in charge of all of your pregnancy care, unless you have some higher risk factors that mean you're under a Drs care, even then it's likely you'll mainly see a midwife, and only see the Dr once or twice

Thanks @Charley I’ll will have a look at it 🥰
