Potty training

I’ve been trying to potty train my son since 17 months as he’s shown signs eg: taking his nappy off the minute one goes on him the last week hes been doing wees on the potty but he freaks out about going on the potty when needing a poo any advice would be grateful as I’m struggling trying to find things to help him Tia x

Most children take longer to poo on the potty than going for a wee. Just go with his flow (so to speak 😂). He is incredibly young and is doing incredibly well for using the potty the way he is. A lot of people don’t realise that if children are rushed with it, it can damage them psychologically later on and lead them to actually struggle to use the toilet when they are older. Him ‘freaking out’ about doing a poo on the potty is him saying he isn’t ready for that part. He will get there in the end. Well done mama, you’re doing great! X

@Toni thank you, I think he’s more freaking out because it hurts him every time he goes I’ve tried giving him prunes and other fruits to make it not hurt, I’ve given him watermelon and it flew out of him 😂I won’t ever push him to sit on it I’ll take him over when I know he’s going and if he tells me no I’ll leave him, but he’s gotten so great at using it for going for a wee like yesterday I got a nappy (for nap time) so he ran straight to the potty and did a wee so if you know anything that could work for it not to hurt him any advice would be greatly appreciated x

Yeah sounds like you are doing the right things. It is a strange sensation for them, we are so young none of us really remember potty training 😂 I use to work in a nursery before having my little boy and our room was the toddlers so we constantly had potty training going on. Whenever he does use the potty, make a huge fuss of him. Maybe even add in stickers. That will make it more fun for him and the poop will come. My lb is 18 and half months and he hasn’t shown any signs yet. We plan on introducing the potty when he turns two and go from there.

@Toni my son is the same age hasn’t worn a nappy (unless going out) for over a month now, as a reward I use chocolate buttons, I’ll give him one for sitting on the potty and then I’ll give another if he goes, I’m going to get some stickers as I’ve seen in videos that other mums use stickers so I’ll give that a go thank you
