Workplace Pension Contributions

Do you still plan on making contributions to your workplace pension while on maternity leave? I currently pay the max amount my company will match but I’m considering lowering my percentage while on leave. I’ll only be getting SMP.

When sending my maternity application form to HR, I had an option to opt out of any payments while on leave xx

Will be opting out for the duration

Yeah defo still paying in so that my workplace will also pay in, they'll pay the same amount as normal but my contribution will drop down as a percentage of my SMP and then tax relief as well.

I was given the option to opt out and I will be. Check your company policy as mine will continue to pay the employers contributions whilst I pause, I don’t even know that until not long ago xx

I’ve opted out while on my leave. My pension takes a fair chunk out of my wages that I could really do with not going out while off and on rubbish pay. Once I’m back I’ll opt back in My opt out commenced this month so I have 2 full pays with extra to chuck in the savings before I start may pay

I’m opting out - I really didn’t want to because of the long term repercussions, but the immediacy of being on SMP won out!

Thanks everyone. I really don’t want to opt out and miss employer contributions, which is essentially free money, but i’m also thinking the extra cash while on SMP would be beneficial 😩 but the long term hit on my pension pot doesn’t sound good either 😓 SUCH a hard decision to make!

For me the amount that I would be paying in while on mat leave wouldn't be enough to make a difference if immediately in my pocket that I couldn't save up now in preparation.

I've opted out for the year & I'll opt in when in when I'm back. Just think I'll need all the money we can get xx
