Newly diagnosed with GD

Hi guys! Just got diagnosed today with gestational diabetes. I’m already starving and wondering what everyone is eating to keep it under control? Any tips would be nice. 😊 I’m 29 weeks 6 days now

It’s a hard one, I’m lucky enough that most stuff I can have normally is fine and in range my fasting though isnt in range and is high so I’m in metformin and insulin but apart from though it’s all good apart from the odd just remember it’s trial and error that you have and you will get there I got diagnosed around 28/29 weeks

Snack ideas: - unsweetened yogurt and berries - nuts (almonds, walnuts, etc. once no allergies) - veggies with hummus - multigrain toast with peanut butter and banana or toast with avocados and cream cheese and mushrooms - popcorn - crackers and cheese Meal ideas: - Oven baked sweet potato fries with any lean meat/fish and roasted or steamed veggies is a quick and easy yummy fave of mine - brown rice or quinoa is good as well - lots of beans and veggies Fruits: - berries, citrus, apples, cherries Note: I was advised to avoid eating fruits for bedtime snack as it can raise your fasting glucose in the morning but it’s ok to have after breakfast and lunch for snack. Grains: brown rice, whole wheat pasta, whole grain breads, oats, quinoa I tend to have a glass of milk with nuts before bed I hope this is helpful!

Oh, another thing my dietician said was that you shouldn’t go more than 9-10 hrs overnight without eating as it can affect your fasting glucose levels. For me, if I go long overnight without eating my fasting glucose is high. But then if I go long without eating afternoon it gets low. Try not to skip meals

@Priy wow this is so helpful!! Thank you so much. Screenshot this for future reference. 💗💗💗

Don't starve yourself make sure you're still eating plenty of food, up your protein and fats on a meal and add extra snacks. GD doesn't mean you need to go hungry x

My typical day was Breakfast - omelette with onions pepper spinach brown seeded toast 1 slice. Chicken hotdogs sausage/ vegetarian sausages x2 Water Snack - rice cake cheese cubes hummous Water Lunch - mince salad and 1x brown wrap Water Snack - cheese celery rice cake Dinner - grilled chicken salad/ vegetables cous cous The snacks between helped keep my hunger levels lower.

@Sarah thank you! I appreciate this so much

Aloha bars and Owyn protein shakes are also great snacks

Everything you eat pair with protein, I can eat pasta so long I have chicken with it for example. Or porridge in the morning I also add nuts and a couple of baby bell. I can eat thick toast too so long I spread a thick amount of peanut butter on it 🤣 it’s just about pairing basically and the more protein you eat with each meal the fuller you’ll be. Cheese is now my best friend! Xx
