I trained my daughter, who's now 13, the week she turned 2.

Plan to start at the age of 2. Want my son to be fully potty trained by the time he starts pre school. I won’t start any earlier than 1.5, I know some start earlier and that’s great but I really want my son to be able to not only hear what I’m saying but comprehend it as well.

@Chelsi ok my son is 11 months old I want to star early but idk

@Elannah ok cuz my son is starting to take of his diaper my family members is saying the mean he want to start potty training

So you can definitely introduce the potty and can do elimination communication, where you learn their times and body language and put them on the potty. But physically most kids aren't developmentally ready to know when they have to go and hold it to get to a bathroom until about 2, sometimes almost 3 for some. And once trained during the day, they may not be ready during nighttime for awhile. Like it was almost 3 before my daughters body would wake her up because she had to go. Waiting for your child to show interest also helps in the success and how quick they take to it too.

@Gabriela that isn’t what that means 😂 ppl make up anything lol he’s just learning/exploring new things. Mine tried to do the same thing, it usually passes I feel. I’d just put him in a onesie or onesie and pants and problem solved. Redirect him maybe as well ? My son turns 1 in 2 weeks, he doesn’t do this anymore.

@Elannah thank you

My first was potty trained at 18 months old. She night trained around 2.5. Will be doing the same thing with my second. Plenty of cultures do elimination communication early on. But kids can definitely be trained before 2 or 3

My mom potty trained me and my 2 siblings before 2 years old. As soon as my son can start to walk I will be teaching him how to sit on the toilet. I've put him on a baby one a couple of times and I take him with me in the morning into the bathroom with me and have him watch me sit. He has learned to "flush" his baby toilet already from watching me flush the big one and showing him how to "flush" his

My daughter didn’t really potty train until 2 and it took a whole year for her to finally be out of diapers during the day. She struggled the most with pooping on the toilet. It terrified her for some reason! I had to wait until she was ready on her own to finally get it. But it’s common with a lot of kids. I’m a preschool teacher and at our daycare, potty training starts when they hit 2 and they’re hopefully potty trained before they move out to preschool by age 3. We have a few kiddos still not potty trained in my classroom though but we’re working on it! Some of potty trainers will scream and cry when we even ask them to try to potty. 😅😖

@Gabriela depending what size diaper he’s in, you could try the diapers that are just the pull up kind that don’t have the Velcro type sides, if you’re not wanting to keep clothes on him all the time. It’ll prevent him from taking it off. I use the pampers ones at nighttime for my son, because he prefers to sleep in just his diaper most nights. And if we use regular diapers, he manages to get one side open in his sleep. (he’s in a size 4)
