I got diagnosed yesterday and picked my kit up today so I haven't tested yet, so I don't have any tips I'm afraid but the consultant should be able to help with the diet. All I've read is low carbs high protein and veg. Although veg is not something I'm really liking in pregnancy 😕

Have a look on the GD UK Facebook page and website. Lots of helpful information on there regarding diet

I was diagnosed a week ago 😞 A few tips I can give, 1. For breakfast, lunch and dinner. Make sure your plate has protein e.g eggs, meat of your choice and LOTS of veg/salad. When I do my reading is within range. 2. Try not to eat 3 hours before bed. One day I didn't do this my fasting reading was 6.1. 3. After you eat,walk around ( do house chores )for 15 mins or so. Last tip , My midwife said stress / poor sleep can effect your reading. So try and improve that if possible X I hope this was helpful x

@Peace what are you eating for snacks?

@Nell 'handful' of Nuts, greek yogurt with low glycemic fruits e.g strawberries, cherries, apple and peanut butter, dark chocolate, baked beans, cheese on wholemeal seeded toast ( one slice) X

My midnight readings are higher no matter what I eat. I find I need to have higher protein than usual and cheese with everything (I usually have 30 to 40g). It could just be you need the meds. I have been on metformin since before pregnancy, so I have that as a bonus of helping control the sugars. So that may be the route you need to take it.

Sorry to jump on this. I have just had a positive diagnosis too. Been using the kit for a week, but haven't actually been told what classes as a high reading?

@Siobhan I was told a fasting blood reading should be below 5.3 and an hour after a meal 7.8 or less

@Peace thank you

@Nell thank you @Louise Finding out the above information puts me in the same situation as you. I'm eating so much better, not having any of the stuff I'm really craving, and my readings are still very high!
