Midwife

I'm nearly 9 weeks and still haven't seen a midwife (apart from early pregnancy one cause I had an early scan cause was paranoid) is anyone else still waiting should I call them or? I hate all the waiting in the first trimester haha ❤️

I think in my first pregnancy I had my first scan at 12 weeks and didn't see a midwife until 16 weeks which was my first appointment. I had a telephone appointment at around six/seven weeks with a midwife and it's the same for this pregnancy - got a telephone appointment to go through family history and stuff at about 9 weeks. X

With my first I called my GP and had to do maternity self referral. I saw a midwife at around 8 weeks, I had to give urine sample, and the I saw the same midwife throughout the pregnancy. The invite for the scans came from the hospital. I’ve done the same this time, and I’ve already received my letter with the date for the 12 weeks dating scan, but not heard from a midwife yet. I think I’ll wait until I’m 7 weeks and I’ll try to ring the centre I used to go to, as I’m not quite sure who to call to be honest.

I had my booking in face to face appointment with a midwife at 5weeks

I have a booking appointment at 9 weeks, I contacted them around 5 weeks and they gave me an appointment They will then book me in for my 12 week scan, I'll see them at my 20week scan then not see them again until 25weeks as it is my 2nd x

Had my booking app last week 7 weeks, first midwife app usually 16 weeks x

I have to add, you should contact your GP or midwives ASAP as some tests has to be done before 10 weeks

I saw mine at 8 weeks x

I'm seeing mine tomorrow, I'll be 10 weeks 6 days! It's such a long wait 😵‍💫 Wish GPs would still see you for a first appointment (they did with my 1st 13 years ago) crazy xx

You should have blood tests done by 9 weeks

@Laura I didn't have mine done till 16 weeks last time cause i found out had dating scan booked but turned out to be my 12 weeks then midwife appointment came after lol

I had my booking in appointment with a midwife yesterday at 8w 3days. In my area you get seen between 8-10 weeks. They say to contact the midwife team if you haven't been booked in by them by 8 weeks

lol why wait just call to set up the appointment

@Kitty tried that they said wait lol

You might need to fill out a self referral form. All the different areas have different processes. Call the maternity unit at the hospital you want to give birth in and they will tell you what to do

@Chloe sickle cell and thalassaemia, according to the NHS.

@Chloe hmmm… to be honest, I can’t remember when they took blood from me when I was pregnant with my first! I know they did, but only remember once or twice…what gestation I don’t know, I just read this online. I was deffo seen by a midwife though at around 8 weeks, and once a month after that. It was every two weeks if I remember correctly, in the third trimester. Something like that.

@Kathryn I've done that I rang them earlier and they said yeah we've got you in just wait for a midwife to call you she said it will be around 9 - 10 weeks so if I haven't heard by next Friday call again x

Def call them if you haven't heard by end of this week. You want your booking appointment before 10 weeks ideally, then ofc the scan at 12 weeks, next midwife at 16 etc. For your 16W midwife appointment you may need to call and book! I self-referred to the hospital and got my booking appointment at 8W and at that appointment they booked my 13W scan. They told me my midwife would be a community midwife not attached to the hospital and gave me the number to call them. So I did and got my 16W in. And every appointment I've had since they then book in the date for the next appointment while I'm there, so it's always lined up. The wait for the first booking appointment is annoying! But don't be afraid to chase and pester them if they're falling behind booking you in
