Well my midwife said if I have to high reading in the morning that night go up 2 units if you keep having high readings just keep going up 2 units, I was told to take it at 9pm I’ve pushed it too 9:30/10pm seems to keep my readings in range

Agreed with about I started on 5units before bed and was told if I had repeat high readings to adjust the units. Same with my day time meals I ended up on nearly 40 units daily in my last pregnancy.

Yes normal! it took me couple of weeks to get the right dosage and i went up to 56 units by the end of my pregnancy. Make sure you still have your after dinner snack because skipping it could make it go higher ( what my doc told me ).

@Debra can you suggest some good after dinner snacks. I’m struggling with my pre diagnosis snacks.

High protein snacks are best. I get better fasting readings if I eat cheese & crackers or meat.

@Usinger cheese/tomato with multigrain crackers, sugar free yoghurt, banana, milo,

I also had the same issue with high fasting readings. It all depends on your body and the insulin resistance. Sometimes you are playing catch up with the placenta growing. A lot of the comments above are what I learned also - make sure to have a bedtime snack (owyn protein shake - dark chocolate was great or an aloha bar) and don’t skip meals. I had to keep increasing my insulin units (using the direction of my dr.) to find the right dosage. It took a while and it seems like 28u worked for me. But everyone’s body is different. For example, for breakfast I always spiked high if I ever incorporate a small carb so I learned to stay clear of that. But lunch and dinner I could incorporate more carb within the limits and it didn’t spike. You start learning what is working and what isn’t with some trial and error the best you can. It took me some time to figure it out so make sure to give yourself grace and that you are doing everything you can.

Would you still have a bedtime snack? After taking insulin or before?

@Casey before
