NHS dental care

Hello ladies did anyone used the free dental care? How was it? Is it 100% free of charge? How was the service? How to find a clinic that offer so? I’m 4 months post partum, is it still valid?

Yes I used it for a check up. I also needed a root canal and filling which was free of charge. If you want a hygienist appointment you need to pay. You also get free dental care for one year after birth.

How much did you pay for hygienist more or less? Thanks for the info..

No. Haven’t been able to even enlist with an NHS dentist in my area since I fell pregnant. It’s been almost a year and no care at all. Yet, I had extremely bad HG and my teeth took the brunt of the damage so need some hefty fillings soon. I had to pay £300 a few weeks ago to remove my wisdom tooth. I’m gonna need to pay the same again to remove the tooth that needs a root canal in about 2 weeks.

I've had my hygienist appointments for free as well as check ups. I've not needed anything doing so not sure about procedures.

I think it was £50

If you’re already registered with a dentist, it will be free of charge unless you opt for things like white fillings - which are classed as optional and therefore chargeable as a private treatment. If you’re not registered, I think you’ll find it very difficult to find an NHS dentist - not because your exempt, but in general because there seems to be less and less of them about. Hygienist, if your dentist says you ‘need’ it, it should be free of charge and scale and polish can be done by the dentist. If it’s something you want to opt for, again it’s chargeable. Some dentists can be a bit naughty and try and push you to go with the hygienist, as it makes them more money that way. But if you ask if it’s clinically recommended and they say yes, you can ask them to complete it and it’s then free x

I just registered 3 months ppl abd had a free check up. Just find the nearest nhs dentist that accepts new patients

Hi! Does any clinic does these or is it only selected ones that do free checks? Also is any form needed to say you’re under the year post partum? Or will they just go by your word on this?

@wiktoria you can go to nhs website and find the nearest nhs dental clinics. They will show if they accept new patients or not. When you find one, register and tell them you recently has a baby. They take your nhs number so i assume thats how they check if it’s true

@Aidana Not a single one in my area are accepting new patients.

@Sarah hi, thats so unfortunate im really sorry to hear that! Have you tried raising this with tour council or local nhs hospital? Im actually not sure how i would go about that but can imagine how annoying this is
