Eating dates with GD

I have seen many people suggest having dates in third trimester for easier labor , is that a myth? If not when should we start? Also it also have 5g sugar each ,so will it make our glucose levels worse ?

Dates have a low glycemic index so they are safe to eat in moderation with GD. You probably don’t need to eat more than 4-5 per day if you have GD (just monitor when you eat it like be sure to count it in your daily carb intake so your blood glucose isn’t affected. I believe the recommendation is from about 35/36 weeks based on what my OB said… Unless you’re having problems with constipation earlier than that then she said it’s ok to have a couple before as they’re known to help with constipation as well.

Hi, I met with my diabetes consultant yday and asked the question about dates. They told me to steer clear as they said they are high in sugar. Even before putting chocolate and all sorts on the top make them taste better. I’ve decided I won’t bother as I don’t like them anyway and told point blank to avoid
