Ivf and low AMH

Hey, my amh is low, 6.5 (has to be above 6 for nhs funding so we only just qualified). I don't think it's AS important as they make out. They had a really poor outlook for us, told me not to expect many eggs and even less mature enough to fertilise. This scared me into researching what I could do to help with diet. I was really strict making sure I ate right. Not sure whether than had much of an impact as others say they ate and drank as they want and they were fine. Anyway, we retrieved 11, all mature, 10 fertilised and we got 6 that were fair to good quality blastocysts! One currently cooking, 5 on ice! Try not to panic too much about amh, I think it's a lot of luck whether they get the dosages correct for your body first time. Many women get better results 2nd time due to drs knowing what did and didn't work previously.

@Chloe thanks for this my AMH is 2,5 found out yesterday.. really low for 35 years old. I’m super worry to be refuse.

Hi there! I’m starting IVF in October, low AMH. I’ve got 23 follicles though, but they said they’ll up my med dose due to the low AMH, but follicle count was good. It’s not a determination of quality of eggs so that’s important to remember 😃 Here to chat any time.

@Katrina thanks! Happy to chat! Yes!! I did it! Result will be out on 26/08 in my nhs app. I know the Amh result early because the hospital where I work is the one who does the AMH test and I could see in my profile!

@Cote it may be different requirements based on location, as some places have one round funded, some have three. So I wonder if other requirements change too. I know you probably have but just double check the unit on your amh. I was talking to someone whose was measured in ng/ml (normal is 1-4) so they thought my 6.5 was amazing 😂whereas mine was measured in p/mol

@Chloe mine as well are p/mol range is 1,1/53… and I’m 2,5 really low! I still shock about this

Don't be too disheartened, I know it's easier said than done, but just adjust your diet where you can (it may help, it may not, but I just wanted to cover all bases with only getting one round funded). They will give you a higher dose of stims than people with a higher amh. You may still get slightly less eggs than average but it doesn't impact the quality, which is the most important thing.

Totally agree with what Chloe said. Quality is better than quantity but totally understand the concern. I have AMH of just over 7 and will be on higher doses for stims. I also have a friend of a friend who had the same level as you and she ended up with 12 eggs mature, 6 fertilised and 4 good blastocysts. She was taking DHA from Zita West, I’ve just began it too, might be worth researching it. I really do think it varies case by case with lots of determining factors. I had an AMH of 2.5 pmol at 32. Got my two NHS IVF rounds without issue. It took four rounds of IVF but I now have a gorgeous week old baby boy x

I had my AMH 0.983 it’s mean less than one and my doctor told me Ivf is impossible and even getting natural is also impossible and stopped going to doctor got pregnant after 3 months without any medication 🙁you do Ivf because of low AMH?

@Skhan no! We already ttc for 2 years… never saw a positive test…

@Skhan hey, given you are from Canada, it sounds like your amh may be measured in ng/ml? Can you check?

@Cote i got pregnant after almost two years too I thought I will never get two lines in my life🙁and please start fennel and ajawan seeds and also prenatal vitamins that’s why I did for one months and that month I got pregnant

@Skhan you give me a hope! It’s 2 years for us… one just fun time and 1 where I check everything. I take folic acid, cq10, vitamin d… tell me about this fennel and ajawan? Seed? Or supplement? I will start dhea as well

@Cote bought from shoppers drug Mart yes I got naturally after 2 years and bought from indain store

I had a very low Amh for my age 32 at the time 0.82 ng/ml. I had only a few follicles every time usually only retrieved 2 mature eggs most I ever retrieved was 6 mature eggs. Total of 4 ivf cycles but I now have my miracle baby girl. She is worth every single heartbreak I had while ttc. Low amh can sometimes be tied to endometriosis. For me this was true in this case a lap might be helpful. My egg quality was better after lap. Best of luck 🍀

@Daisy Hey, did you have any symptoms of endo? Or any testing to indicate you had it?

@Lucie No, absolutely no symptoms. I actually swore I didn’t have it. My doctor was insistent to check because he suspected it. He specializes in endo but other doctors didn’t think I had it either. I visited 4 others. I went with the one thinking outside of the box. I figured it was a small incision and a quick recovery if I didn’t have it. Then we could put that possibility to rest. Looking back I have had heavy periods some cramps but nothing crazy. Tylenol would usually take care of it. My endo was pretty active and spread out. I still have some in my bowel they were able to see when I had my C-section. It was too risky to remove and it doesn’t cause me any discomfort. It didn’t impact egg quality or pregnancy. Endo near the ovaries does.

@Cote Thank you! A little girl was always a dream of mine too. I definitely cried tears of joy because I didn’t think a girl was possible for me. I was so happy. She looks just like a baby doll that I wanted when I was a little girl but didn’t dare ask my mom for. God acts in mysterious ways. I got my baby doll years later. I’m in the US and I did IVF in India privately. Some of it was covered by our HSA here. It would have been upwards of 100k in the US as with low amh I knew I needed multiple cycles.

@Daisy do you know why your doctor suspected it? Did they remove most of the endo when you had the surgery and before you transferred a embryo? Do you remember if they then put you on a down regulation for the Endo before your transfer I’ve read this is important!! I also have a very low AMH and retrieve 2/4/5 eggs each time, I’ve been making top quality embryos though and my eggs are always mature and fertilise so I’m at a point where I don’t know what else is going on? X

@Lucie Endo is called the working women’s disease because it’s very common in women who wait a bit longer to have children. I was 30 when I started TTC. I’m assuming he suspected it was endo because of my low amh and age. Low amh is common with endo. I did not have any endometriomas. Yes, he removed all the endo except the endo in my bowel as it was too risky. I did 3 IVF cycles immediately after that exactly 20 days after surgery and in the 3rd cycle I had a fresh transfer. My doctor does not believe in down regulation. He said it causes endo to flatten and stiffen. He prefers to remove it. I agree since joining an endo group it seems some only have luck after removal of endo. Endo can make it hard for embryos to form, implant and can also cause early miscarriages.

@Daisy thank you! I’ve read online you can have a MRI and ultrasound to try and see if there is any sign of it! It seems quite severe to go into surgery blindly not knowing if I have it but I do have low AMH and I have had two losses with ivf now 🤷🏼‍♀️ so I don’t know if it’s a possibility or not

@Cote yes that’s great! Some people have low AMH but a good AFC - I had to google when I found my AMH was low but AFC was OK. Your fertility doc will explain more about meds etc for IVF if needed 🥰 I think I mentioned before but look at DHA from Zita West, meant to help with eggs, I’ve been taking for 2 months and due to begin IVF in Oct so hopefully doing something but I’ve read good stuff. X

@Lucie The gold standard is definitely a lap. How old are you? It seems worse than it really is. They go in make a tiny incision in your bellybutton then one on the side mine was on the left side. If they find something they might have to do a third. They are so small I hardly can tell they are there. If you don’t have anything they will just make the one go in see if there is anything there and close it up. Leave no stone unturned. Definitely need an endo specialist as it can be missed by an untrained eye.
