Fit to fly

Anyone been refused a fit to fly form from their doctor? I'm 28 weeks today and I've just found out after waiting 4 weeks for my fit to fly form that my doctor is refusing to sign it. I fly on Monday! I took a form in for her to sign at 24 weeks (last time I had a midwife appointment) she signed it within 2 days of my appointment but that was at the start of this month so I needed a new one as it needs to be done within 2 weeks of when you fly so I took another one in 2 weeks ago and have just found out today after chasing it, that she's now refusing to sign it. What are my options?!

Oh, this hasn't happened to me. Can you ask for another doctor to look at it (2nd opinion) or ask why it's been refused?

All the doctors surgery keep telling me is that this specific doctor is the only one who can sign it (which I don't understand why) but she's not in until tomorrow anyway so I have to call tomorrow and see what's wrong and ask for my money back if she's refusing to do it or find out why. I literally fly on Monday I don't have another option

I asked about it today because I had another midwife appointment today, but when I asked reception, she was like 'well either it gets signed tomorrow when she comes back in, or it'll get done on Monday' and I'm like I fly early hours Monday, I NEED IT tomorrow

What airline are you flying with?

Ryanair

Ah yes Ryanair do say it needs to be within 2 weeks. I flew with them at the beginning of August at 26 and 27 weeks, I looked really pregnant I'll be honest and no one said anything. I'm a bigger girl with a very large baby so the bump was bumping 🤣

My doctors surgery said bring it in 4 weeks before you fly so then you have enough time and then the doctor didnt read the dates which specifically said im flying 26th and coming back 30th. She knew what she was doing though because she circled the 2 times it said it needs to be filled out atleast 2 weeks before. Knowing my luck, they'd call on me and ask for one🤣

I just don't want to risk it and then them refuse to let me fly. I have compression socks and everything, even the midwife I saw today said she doesn't see why she's refused to sign

Yep this happened to me! Ended up cancelling my £1000 flights to the states 😫

Mine was because I had a low lying placenta and didn’t want to fly because of the risk to myself an baby. If there was no medical reason why I couldn’t and they were just refusing to sign it I would definitely just risk flying without one!

A reason for only 1 specific dr being able to sign is all down to liability insurance. Only certain drs have it which is why it can’t be signed by anyone else. My consultant flat out refused to give me a fit to fly form purely on this basis!

Mine is doing that now even though she signed the form 2 weeks ago (nothing has changed in my pregnancy apart from me being further along)

Online or private GP will sign for you (might be more expensive!).

You could try to get a private GP appointment over the weekend. That’s probably the only way you would get around it now
