What are you having for breakfast? X

Yep so annoying im drained from it my fasting levels are still Rubbish after 52units in the night and now insulin just before dinner. Ive only got 6wks left cant come quick enough x

I have tried various breakfasts and can’t find anything that agrees with me but it’s also my fasting levels through the night 😢 I’ve got 9 weeks until due date and baby boy is a little bigger than expected but will have another scan on the 10th September but I just can’t get them down! I’m a celiac as well so my food is gluten free… I had some scampi for tea then ate nothing and only had water to drink and still not coming down

@Alicia I’ve tried fruit with porridge, porridge on its own, rice crispies, bacon and egg, scrambled egg on toast 🤔

@Michelle so what I have for breakfast is, greek yogurt with a handful of fruit or poached eggs with one slice of brown seeded toast with a bit of ham (kind of like eggs Benedict) I always get low readings after breakfast (for now) breakfast is definitely the toughest bit

@Alicia thank you so much x

@Michelle I found cutting the carbs in the evening meal right down to only a palm sized amount of brown rice helped. With plenty of protein and low carb veg. I have 6 weeks left and feel the same. I’ve lived in quinoa and brown rice for evening meals with various meats and fish

@𝐻𝒶𝓎𝓁𝑒𝓎 thank you for replying! I’ll have a look at my evening meals! Gosh it’s never straight forward 🫣

Could you ask for a one to one meeting with the hospital dietitian? They might have some helpful tips for something you could have before bed which might help x

Yes Im here with you. Im finding it draining and very demoralising. Only on metformin as yet but morning levels aren't always great. I'm now not even wanting to eat, I do because I have to, but really can't be bothered with it x

Here is a page of info may help. https://www.gestationaldiabetes.co.uk/high-fasting-levels/ (Website of Facebook group linked above) You might just need to up your insulin. My trust says to automatically increase by 4 units if I get a fasting over 5. Only been on it 2 weeks and already at 34 units. Maybe ask your diabetes team if you can increase.

The Facebook page @Alicia sent has brilliant advice about ‘pairing’ foods. It’s my second pregnancy with GD now. For me, any cereal/porridge gives me high readings. I can only tolerate one brown toast if I pair it with a high fat for example I will do one toast with lots of butter and bacon/sausage/egg and avocado is high fat so works well with toast. If I have fruit it should be low GI fruit like strawberries with full fat greek yogurt and a sprinkle of low sugar granola.

@Layla yeah I get that it’s made me feel the same which isn’t helpful
