Advice?

What is the first step I should take? I’ve been with my husband for 12 yrs now. We somehow managed to have one kid 7 yrs ago. However since then we have been trying for years to conceive again. He is diabetic and has a thyroid issue. Should we go straight to a fertility doctor? Should we contact our primary doctor? I’m not sure where to go from here and who to contact but we desperately want another 🥲

In the USA (not sure where you are), it depends on where you are and what insurance you have. I had to get an appointment with my primary care doctor first because they did the initial testing where I lived. Then, I would go to the fertility center, so they had tests to start off with. My insurance actually helped cover some fertility treatments.

@Jenna thanks. I am actually in Illinois ! Maybe I will start there. Do you think he should see his primary as well to see if the issue might be on his end? Or will they test us both at the fertility clinic?

Hopefully our insurance covers some of the treatment as well! 😭 I heard it can be a little pricey

Call the fertility clinic and see. They might do it all. Also, check with your insurance and see. I called and asked and was surprised they did.

Illinois is an IVF mandated state so I believe your insurance covers fertility BUT its always good to call your insurance first to get a run down of your benefits and coverage. Also, I live in Iowa so I was able to just reach out to the fertility clinic to get in without needing a referral so it all depends on the clinic. Good luck to you and hoping you get your bfp.
