Potty training

We started today and my question is how to deal with nights?! What do you do? Do you have to wake them up? It fills me with dread as he is already such a bad sleeper the thought of waking him up 😥

I could be completely wrong here but my understanding (and from other mums I’ve spoken to) is that night dryness comes a lot later! My daughter has been completely dry and in pants in the day about 6 weeks now but we still put a nappy on at night and probably will do for a long time! Every so often she wakes up dry but I’d say 80% of the time the nappy is wet come the morning! So I’d never risk it 😂

So apparently being dry at night is hormonal and you can’t train them to be dry then. It’s not actually classed as a medical issue until they are 7! We put pull ups on my boy at night but call them ‘night time pants’ so he doesn’t think he’s going back in to a nappy x

I agree with what Florence has said above. Night time dryness comes a lot later. I started potty training my son about 3 weeks ago, and we haven't had any accidents in about 2 weeks. Nighttime wise, he wears a pull up but he has been dry for about a week - we ensure he goes for a wee before bed and that seems to have helped. However, that said I'm in absolutely no rush to remove that pull up at night. Xx

Night dryness is completely different, just keep encouraging a last wee before bed and then put on a pull up, if he wakes up and wants a wee then pop him on his potty. We were incredibly lucky that our son has been dry overnight since 18 months so when we potty trained him we just did a few nights making sure his pull up was dry but it's completely normal to still need a pull up overnight for years yet! Like Kelly said, it's not an issue until they turn 7 so stick with the pull up overnight for as long as it takes and just make 0 fuss about any night time wees 😊

Encourage a wee before bed and a wee first thing in the morning. Eventually they will keep waking up with a dry nappy.

I got my kids out of night nappies one week after mastering the day time potty. I reduced milk and I gave them either water and banana one hour before bedtime. Gives them a chance to pee before bedtime. I also put mattress protectors They were 18 months old

Here is what I did. From a mom with a fully potty trained daughter since she was 2.3 year old I noticed her nappy was dry all night. So I pick her up to pee 3 time at night 3 hours in between them. As that gives enough time for owe to store in. First thing I tell her in the morning to go use the potty. After 1 week I went no diaper at all and continued with 3 times wee wee at night. She’s now 2.9 year old and we only wake up once to pee. If I do forget she wakes up herself but I try not let her wake up herself to not disturb her so I pick her up Instead Never had an accident or bed-wetted
