Grandma taught my daughter word "coohie" when wiping her vagina after going pee

So im hispanic and raised talking Spanish. I'm fluent in enghlish can read, write, read... however, there are still new words I'm learning or have never heard before. I was raised Catholic and in a religious family. I had heard the word "cookie" but not coohie? Is it slang for vagina or is it a bad word? I'm not sure if I should be upset she taught her that, or is it proper for vagina? When my daughter started talking, I called it "V" and later will teach her full word vagina. I wanted her to know proper names for her body parts. I did get upset and feel it was inappropriate, or am I wrong? Need some advice as I not sure this is okay or not okay?? I am feeling uneasy because if it's wrong what do I tell her to correct it and should I draw a boundary with mother in law or just let it be and just teach daughter that is not appropriate and would like her to call it just V? Any advice would be so helpful

It’s not a bad word. I think the older generations are a lot more comfortable with nicknames rather than the anatomical correct words. If you want to teach your daughter the correct words though I would just say to your MIL ‘just to let you know, I want her to know the correct words for her genitals, so going forward can we just refer to it as vagina around her please’

@Amelia thank you! Your advice was so helpful

My son is 4, I’ve taught him the proper words for his part and females. Some ppl do give me the side eye as to why did I teach him the proper terms, but to me - If something was to happen ever I want him to tell me the proper term. I have heard family members say to call it a nickname but no.

it’s not a bad word really, but i wouldn’t teach it to my daughter. i say vagina to her, i feel like coochie isn’t age appropriate for a toddler

@Izzie I agree I don't think it's age appropriate

@Des this is excatly my thoughts and why I want her to know proper names

@Patience your right will be teaching my daughter the exact word. Thank you
