Worried about finances specifically SMP

How does everyone manage on SMP? I am only eligible for 90% for 6 weeks and then down to SMP. Baby is not even here yet, and i am already stressing about money. I will still have approximately £300 of bills to pay out of the SMP money. Luckily my partner is covering the rest, but does anyone have any advice? Or any ideas for earning extra money whilst off? I know there are plenty of people who may struggle more than myself, but with such a decrease in finances, i am a little worried.

Depending on your partners earnings you may be able to claim a little but of uc, with my first we claimed with my on smp and him working. I didn’t for months because I didn’t realise I was entitled to anything but turns out I was. No harm in applying once baby is here and your money drops to smp

I basically saved up a bit of money every month for a while and now I have a little savings pot that I can use. Only time will tell if it will be enough, especially with winter and higher heating bills coming 😬 now I'm struggling to find out what the payment will be after tax, there doesn't seem to be any info on that anywhere

I'm in the same boat as you and coming towards the end of my 90% time, and surprisingly I'm entitled to nearly 400 quid a month from uc so its deffo worth a look!

Totally feel your pain, I’m self employed so it’s statutory from the get go and it’s hitting hard ! Last time I had savings and I found that hard but this time no back up 🙈 You will make it work it’s just an adjustment ❤️xx
