Does anyone know how I can go about getting access to notes and discuss through NHS regarding birth?

Basically I had a really traumatic birth. I was bleeding but also had what seemed to be my waters breaking mixed in with it. I went to the hospital and they told me I needed to have the baby. All was fine in the end. But I was a bit traumatised so didn't ask any questions. I'm now thinking of having another baby but because I don't have answers about the last birth I feel unprepared and scared. I called the hospital and asked if I could speak to a midwife or someone to explain to me what happened. I keep getting put through to different people who don't want to help. Any help?

There should be a service called something like Birth Reflections where a dedicated midwife will meet with you to go through your notes and talk through your birth with you, and then answer any questions you have. I would look on the website of your local hospital as a starting point, or google birth reflections and your town. Hope you find it helps.

Might be able to get the physical notes directly through the hospital/Trust. Of course that means they'll be full of scary medical jargon and you won't have anyone to talk them through with you so perhaps you could access them and then ask your current midwife to look over them with you or a doctor at your local surgery.

Thank you! I've contacted the hospital and they said they will see what they can do. My birth was a year ago now so I think it's made it harder

I had a ‘debrief’ appointment arranged with a consultant. I rang up and asked for it myself. Around a year later x

I phoned birth reflections and the person I spoke to was nice. She took my name and number and said she would see what she can do. It's been 3 days so not sure when to expect something if at all..

I imagine you won’t hear anything over the bank holiday weekend but hopefully you will soon.
