Midwife question

Hi all! Yesterday I had my 16 week appointment and, to my surprise, it was with a different midwife than the one that was originally assigned to me. When I asked why that was the case, she said that they will rotate (and are in fact 3!) and that my midwife has another role with the smoking mums (not sure what that is). My question is, has this happened to you? Have you been with the same midwife all along? Shouldn't that be the case? Or is it normal to have different ones throughout the pregnancy? Just want to make sure I'm getting the best care possible or if I should raise any concerns. Thanks!

So I actually didn't see my assigned midwife from about 16 weeks had a totally different one the rest of the pregnancy and at birth it weren't my midwifes ot was totally different one xx

When I was pregnant with my little boy, I had different midwives till 16-20 weeks when I then stayed with the same midwife but that was mainly because I live across the road from the hospital and she was always there. I know my friends saw loads of differnt midwives through out their pregnancy

It's normal to see different midwives. You can't guarantee who's going to be working on the day you go into labour so you might as well meet as much of the team as possible

I had a cover midwife for my first appointment as the usual midwife had been at a home birth all night, then I saw that midwife at my 16wk appointment, and I don't know yet if I'll see her again at my 28wk one. As long as they do what is expected, urine, blood pressure etc and help with any questions I'm not too bothered if same one. It's not like she's the one delivering my baby.

Most community midwives won't be in at the birth, they all have different roles, so I wouldn't worry about it x

Hi I'm not far from you and my notes have the 3 midwifes names on one of my midwifes works with the smoking clinic I've always seen different ones and I've never had a midwife I've met before when gone into labour but there all lovely and look after you well.

Thank you all! Very reassuring 😊

I’m 15+4 and do not even know who my assigned midwife is! I’ve never even seen her I always get a random that when I first meet her says “I’m not your assigned midwife btw”

i didnt have the same midwife twice 😂

In my head, once we get one assigned, she would stay with us throughout the pregnancy. But it seems like that's not how it works 😅

@Susana possibly in other countries or maybe in some different areas of UK but most are community midwives who don't see the labour stage most of the time.

I think the NHS like you to see no more than 3 different midwives. With my daughter I saw about 7. With my son I had the same one all throughout my pregnancy. I think it’s just how it works sometimes

I was told at my booking appointment that my midwife would be a specific person and given their mobile number, never met her and have been told she’s now retired Since moving my midwife apps from the Ellesmere Port hospital to a children’s centre, I’ve seen the same midwife for the last 3 appointments x

I saw about four different ones in Ellesmere Port! Xxx

@Shannon That isn't great... I hope everything is going well with your new one! 🙏🏾
