My sister is a specialist nurse and works regular days. She goes back tomorrow after her mat leave and they are allowing a three day set week too which is great. It might be a case of looking into specific roles so don't let the fact it's usually shift work put you off 😊

I'm not any of these, but for teacher you may not have birthdays off every year but at least long term you will have all the holidays off, people may saying it's not financially worth it but if you have kids and you want to be present while saving money on childcare during the summer etc, then it's the perfect job really

@Chiara that’s exactly what I was thinking! Perfect to work around baby and get to support her when she’s older in her studies is perfect!

@Cristina I have heard of this but I don’t get how people can do their teacher training without a degree? I have tried to contact around but haven’t found any teacher training courses that’ll allow me to start without some form of degree. Is it a direct contact with a school?

If you’re looking to get into teaching, some schools now offer apprenticeship teaching roles - you would teach part time while attending college part time over 2 years and then be a qualified teacher at the end, but the pay isn’t very good while you’re doing the apprenticeship x

If you want to be present in your daughters life. Don't become a teacher ! People think having the holidays off is great for families. But in term time you will be working till 10pm every night. Be drained and be marking in the holidays anyways. Just look at the Facebook group exiting teaching. As an ex teacher, it's the worst family friendly profession. Stay clear.

I’m a paediatric nurse, I have a 2 year old and currently 30 weeks pregnant. I went back after maternity leave after 12 months part-time. I work 24 hrs a week over 2 days, so we do long shifts. I do days and nights, I’m used to it as have been doing it for a while and it works well for me with a young child. I always have his birthday off as I can request 4 shifts a month off of specific days I want/or annual leave. Christmas you have to either work one of the special days or new yr, I go for this. 😊 good luck on choosing your new venture. X

I’ll be honest - having just finished a degree myself which I started at the age of 23, I wish I listened to those who said ‘uni is a waste of time and money, it’s a scam don’t do it’ because they were right, I can’t get an interview, I can’t get a graduate scheme and I now work in customer service again!! The exact industry I studied a degree to enable me to leave! It’s a very tough, competitive world for graduates and the wages don’t correlate to the amount of time and work that you put in. For things like teaching where you often have to have a degree, I’d recommend as it’s an essential stepping stone, however I’d look into maybe some sort of degree apprenticeship or other route into the career you’re interested in. All I got out of uni was stressed, depressed and in debt 😂 AND I can hardly remember anything I learnt!

@Gina I totally agree! I went to uni to do accounting and finance and really hated it I didn’t like it at all I was mugged twice on my way to uni and this really ruined my confidence. I dropped out after a few months and they slapped me to a debt company to pay back my student loan. I have to pay in full no instalments available apparently. It’s impossible for me to pay now unemployed with a baby. I am very nervous to go back and if I did it would have to be a very specific degree that went into a very specific job which are desperately needed.
