Potty help

My lg is a bit constipated since we started weening. She drinks a lot of water and has fruit to get things going but doctors think her muscle in her bum isnt strong enough to get it out. Anyway, the only way she can poop very well is when she is in a sitting position so i bought a potty. Anyone got tips on how to start? Like pop her on it with a nappy on, undress her, what helped for you guys? 🙏🩷 Pic so we dont get lost!

No potty advice but my little boy is the same with constipation since weaning, I find the best thing I’ve tried is putting a splash of pure orange juice in his water, or squeeze a fresh orange in his water. He now poos regularly again since I’ve been giving him this x

@Dillon my lg poops, just need a bit of help. Tried juice aswell and she was on different medication but only thing that helps is the squatting position

I’m a health visitor and if her poo is hard then she may need a softener from the GP to help her but first try increasing her foods with fibre in (wholemeal rice, wholemeal pasta and cereals) you can also try introducing berries and citrus fruits that can naturally soften her poo. If it doesn’t improve then ask the GP for a stool softener. If you use potty then just sit her on it with her nappy on

@Louise she was on softners and helped a lot, her poop is soft now but she just has a problem to push it out. Doctor thinks its the muscle and she has to train it but he recommended a potty aswell.

@Marissa in 17 years of health visiting I have never come across this as a diagnosis I suspect the GP isn’t very up to date on normal childhood development. It can be perfectly normal for a baby or young child to strain and appear like they are struggling but then the poo comes out soft. My own baby does it. It’s called infant dyschezia and it just means they haven’t learnt to coordinate their muscle movements yet, it’s not that they are not strong enough and it will resolve over time as long as her poo stays soft ish.

When you see her poop face. Take the diaper off and sit her on the potty. You can also sit her on the potty first thing after waking.

My first daughter used to like to poop in her bouncer (in fact she wouldn't go anywhere else for quite a while, but would go immediately in there!). I guess the angle was right to help her push better. Maybe something like that which partially replicates the squatting position would help?

I heard apple juice woks but not lots as it can hurt there belly’s x

We put our girl on a potty every morning since she was able to sit (7m} and by day 3 she started pooping in it. I was just curious if she would like it and she did. I would go no nappy, you might get a surprise and she might enjoy it. We did books on potty from the start
