I had to go back to work for 2/3 months before I could claim it again.

@ellie so did you not get Statutory pay the second time around? Did they explain why? X

I didn’t qualify because I hadn’t earns enough in the weeks leading up to it

What Hannah said basically. I had to go back and earn wages before I could then go back onto maternity leave. There are other reasons I can’t remember 😂 but it’s something about having to go back for a few weeks months before your entitled again xx

My friends done the same she caught pregnant well on maternity leave and she had to go back to work for 2 months or she wouldn’t qualify x

@Hannah I don’t understand why!! SMP should still count towards your average earnings though so I’m not understanding why!! @ellie how old was your first baby when you got pregnant with the second? And also did you take the full 12 months off the first time round? I.e. did you have 3 months unpaid? X

Because it goes on what tax and national insurance you pay which you don’t pay whilst off so that’s why haven’t earnt enough

@Hannah that’s not what it says on the government website. On the gov website it says you just need to earn £123 a week in the qualifying weeks

@ellie @Hannah hold on when you say you need to be back in work 3 months do you mean before getting pregnant or just 3 months before starting your new mat leave x

That’s what I got told when I spoke to someone on the phone. I even asked for it to be looked at again but I was told by 3 people that is the case and that’s it end of. So I didn’t get it.

It’s so hard to explain. But everyone would just be on maternity leave other wise hense why you got to come off your first maternity leave to go back to work to then go back onto maternity leave xx

You can’t just stay on maternity leave from 1 child to the other basically but then need to meet requirements before you go onto second anyway

@ellie @Hannah when you say you need to be back in work 3 months though - do you mean before getting pregnant or just 3 months before starting your new mat leave? Because basically if baby is due on 20th April and I’m due to go back to work on 1st January I would be back in work 3.5 months.

I believe it’s before your 25 weeks. You have to qualify but I’m not 💯

@Hannah yeah I think it’s the 8 weeks before you are 25 weeks pregnant but I would have thought that if you were on SMP for that then it would could towards your weekly earnings. Thank you for your advice

It doesn’t unfortunately it’s same for some people on other benefits they don’t qualify 🙈

it sounds like you’ll be back in work long enough to qualify again x

@Jodie it’s just conflicting info! Because if what Hannah says is correct then the “qualifying period” will fall whilst I’m still on maternity leave and also will be in the 3 months I don’t get any money! It makes no sense to me xx

Have you used the online calculator? Put the dates in and see what it tells you

@Chrissy thank you so much!! 🙏🏻 I thought SMP would count towards it!! X

I had to be back in work for certain amount of weeks to be able to qualify for SMP due to me not being back I applied for MA and was granted that instead.

In my work- I have to work for 13 weeks, before I’m 25 weeks pregnant. Only then would I qualify x

@Kaylee how much do you get with MA ? X

I got 368£ every two weeks as I chose to have it paid fortnightly.. it’s £184.03 a week or 90% of your average weekly earnings (which ever is less) for up to 39 weeks if your employed or have recently stopped working x

@Kaylee Ohright that’s exactly the same as SMP x

the only difference is that you don’t get 90% of your wages for the first six weeks x
