HELP!! Maternity exemption certificate?

Can anyone help. I’ve been charged with a NHS penalty for a prescription as they have no record that I am on maternity leave. I never recall getting my certificate from my midwife. Does anyone know where I can find this? Do I need to go back to my midwife? HELPP

I was told by my midwife early in pregnancy to “guard it with my life” as it would not be replaced ???

If you Google how to find maternity exemption certificate it comes up with a few links you may be able to find it. I was charged aswell and just needed the certificate number and they removed it x

@Hayley I’m just sure that I was never given one. Apparently they have to apply and it takes a while to come in the post. This is so frustrating as the penalty charge is just going to go up and up!

Don’t worry @Katie , when you appeal the charge which you must, they will ask that you pay the cost of the prescription ONLY and will put a stop on the charge increasing.

I was never given a physical one, I remember getting mine emailed to me x

I’m having the same problem atm. I never got one as I didn’t have the same midwife. As a ftm it’s really frustrating as you don’t know what you need or don’t need. I’ve emailed them and they have told me to go to the doctors to get a certificate and then they will drop the charge as long as I pay the prescription fee

My midwife did it online and sent me an email, I had it within half an hour.

My GP gave my the mat exemption and midwife gave me matb1. I'm sure if ur child is still under under 1, they can re issue ur mat exemption

I had mine emailed at the first appointment I had x

I was never given one and had the same thing. Basically they fucked up and the only way was for me to pay the original cost of the tablets which were luckily only £10. It’s not right though! At the time I had a month old baby and no one was answering or helping me and it was really stressful

I got one issued by my local midwife team but they did it from my child’s birth date and the tablets were iron tablets from during pregnancy so I still had to pay for them x

You have to apply for it and my midwife never told me this. I went to my gp and they filled out the form at reception, got the midwife on site to sign it and i posted it. Its just come to me and its been backdated a month to july 9th so i was able to get a refund for the charges

I had mine by email! The midwife had it sent across within a minute of me sitting in my midwife appointment. It should cover you up until your child is 1. Check your emails

I didn't get mine in the post but via email - have you checked your email? I've never had a physical one, I also never applied for this, it was just automatically emailed to me after the first appointment. Looking back, mine was emailed to me on the day of my booking appointment, so maybe check your spam?

I got mine emailed to me really early in my pregnancy as I take meds everyday. You should be able to get one from the GP

I could have written this myself!! I’ve also just got this letter in the post and have never had a certificate! What are you doing to try and sort it??! x

It should've been given to you at your booking appointment either via post or email. The midwife fills in the form, and then it gets sent to you. Can you speak to someone at your health centre? It lasts until your child's 1st birthday

@Katherine it’s so annoying and it’s not our fault!! I’ve contacted my health visitors who are hopefully going to be able to apply for the certificate for me. My doctors didn’t help and all and I haven’t had a reply from my midwife. I also called the number on the letter and they have said I have to pay the prescription fee anyway because I haven’t had a certificate at the time I got the prescription! Then once they have had the certificate through they will cancel all the penalty charges. Such a nightmare it’s clear we’re all had a baby!! 🥵

@Chloë I don’t even know what it’s meant to look like 😂 have contacted my health visitor and hopefully they can apply for me x

@Katie i paid mine (july24th) and then sent off the certificate application about a week or 2 after, and they backdated it to july 9th so it meant it covered the charge and i got a refund. Get it sent off asap as they backdate to a month before they recieve it x

i didn’t think i had received mine, midwife told me 3 months later it was emailed to me at my first appointment and it was hidden in my junk folder x

Someone made a comment earlier but it seems to have been deleted now to email this address with a photo of your baby’s birth certificate and ask for a maternity exemption form. nhsbsa.ppc1@nhsbsa.nhs.uk I emailed them earlier on today and got confirmation within an hour that a new one has been issued. You’ll need to also provide your NHS number, DOB and full address

Hey! You’re local to me 👋😊 In this area the midwife should have done this at your first appointment and it should have been emailed to you so I’d go back to them if no help from the health visitor! X

@Katie if it was an email, then just a letter stating it's the exemption with your certificate number x

i remember i got mine emailed to me and my midwife said i had to make sure i never lost that email
