Gestational diabetes

I’m so anxious. I started my first dose of insulin today and the actual act of the shot was fine. I just get really anxious taking new medications. I was on 500 mg of metformin before getting pregnant. Is that the same as 10 units of insulin? I’m trying to find any way to think about this to ease my mind. I don’t want to sit up all night overthinking it and make myself sick. Is 10 units a lot? Will I even notice a difference? I’m just looking for anything positive about insulin. Thank you!

I take insulin and the tablets one in the morning and two at night and the shot. It still doesn’t help my morning results. However at least your controlling it with insulin I hope it works for you. ☺️

@Adel Thank you, I’m really trying to stay positive. It just sucks getting a shot everyday, i can’t believe i have to spend every night of the rest of my pregnancy doing this.

I do 500mg metformin in the morning then same in the evening plus 8 units of insulin, numbers are still all over the place BUT think it could be the monitor :/

@Jennifer That’s a lot! After my first dose last night my fasting number this morning was still 117 which is one of the highest fasting numbers I got so i’m sure I’ll end up getting a higher dose of insulin or put back on metformin.

@Destiney or being put on both like myself and Adel... It's just awful luck really as I can't have the water birth I really wanted now because of it and that really crushed me x

@Jennifer I’m so sorry! That’s terrible! They’re looking at induction for me around 36 weeks because I also have preeclampsia.

@Destiney it is what it is, consultant shown me the risks of a water birth with GD and I've got to be constantly monitored, finger pricked every hour and bloods taken every 4 hours. My highest number has been 11.9 on my little monitor and I'm just glad that we have the NHS, so all healthcare is free 💜 as I would hate to know how much it would all cost without it.. X

@Jennifer i feel that. I check my sugars before and after every meal. My sugars got up to 174 today. I’m also so thankful for OHP. I could never afford any of this without it

@Destiney I do mine 4 times a day, so not as much as you do.... What is OHP!

@Jennifer OHP stands for oregon health plan. It’s just the government funded insurance that’s available in oregon. And since my fiance is native american we get it for life once we are married.

@Destiney oh lovely! So it's like the UK NHS so all healthcare is free? Do you get the 9 months paid maternity leave too? X

@Jennifer oh no.. i believe the us only gets 12 weeks of paid maternity leave. however, the maternity pay isn’t as good as what you would normally make so I’m not taking any maternity leave. I have enough paid time off for a week

@Destiney you're only taking a week? :( x
