Struggling with dirty nappies

Anyone else have problems with their baby pooing. My baby is getting so angry and upset from straining and nothing is coming. I’ve been told to bicycle his legs and massage his belly, I also give him infacol. Is there anything else to help him? As I think it’s hurting him trying. First time mum here!

How old, and what is he being fed x

When he does go, are they soft? Because it could possibly be infant dyschezia

@Khadijah he has 2 days where he doesn’t go then it comes. Yeah they are soft. He did have small pebbles a few days old but it’s gone back to soft and loose

@Heather he’s only a month old. I’m bottle feeding and he’s on cow and gate x

Mine had this up until 6 weeks it was infant dyschezia just takes them a while to figure out the different muscles bless them x

Health visitor always recommends cool boiled water over any medicines, but only a few sips in between bottles until bowels open x

@Marissa I have gave him cooled boiled water and it has helped once or twice but everytime he tries he just gets so upset x

My sister swears by Gripe Water. It says for gas, but he does a big poo every time he has some. Might be worth looking into? x

Gripe water is a god send!

Thank you for your replies x

We formula fed as well and was told if the formula is too tough on them to use a little less powder so it's less thick. Easier for them to learn to digest it. Just careful making it too watery ofc

Pre made cow and gate always used to do the trick for us

We are on Kendamil formula and never had a problems with poo x

@Zoe he had pre made at the hospital, might have to try them again x

My little boy is a month today and been having bad constipation and straining. He was also on cow and gate. We went GP and was told tummy massages, baths and bicycle legs. This doesn’t make much of a difference. We change him to aptamel to see if there’s a difference. Slight improvement. Returned to GP today and been given lactose and blood test booked to test for milk allergies. We stopped infacol and that helped as was making him worse. I recommend contacting GP. Always trust your mum instincts x

I would speak with a doctor - giving a one month old water or watering down their formula as some of these comments are suggesting is extremely dangerous and can result in brain damage or death. Please don’t do this! I hope you get some help for your issue soon 🤍

@Kelly my health visitor used to say that there’s something in them that make babies go who struggle
