SMP will be part of what you're receiving already and work will have topped you up to your normal salary for 6 months. So you're already receiving it! You can only get SMP for 39 weeks total so I imagine you've got about 3 months of the £180ish a week to come. Unless you're on a low household income (it includes any partner) then that's likely to be all you get except child benefit if you qualify for that.
Im taking 9 months off and get 6 months paid from my employer. The final 3 months will be statutory mat leave pay ( company policy does allow 12 months off, but the final 3 are unpaid). In theory if your employer is aware of how much time you are taking off, they should have sorted it all out there end and the pay will come from your employer, but if you are unsure it's best to reach out to your employer to get them to confirm. You don’t need to apply for smp. It is paid to you directly from your employer. It’s only for 39 weeks. I think employers normally top-up you’re smp so it’s likely you’ve already received smp for 6 months and your employer enhanced it x
You can apply for universal credit whilst on maternity leave :)
Stat MAT pay only lasts for 39 weeks from the 1st day of leave… I’m unsure if your 6 months will be taken from it? Hopefully not! Your work will sort this for you. Get hold of the accounts department, you should also receive a letter from HR stating what you can get and when your ordinary leave is finished and when your additional leave is finished. Xx
