Proud moment as my child explains why he doesn’t have a Dad 🥺

Jonah doesn’t have a Dad (for reasons I don’t feel like sharing on here) and he will have that explained to him when he’s older but for now he is taught that all families are different. I’ve always worried about how he will cope when other children ask questions or when he starts noticing they all having Daddy’s and he doesn’t. Well today at the park I overheard a little girl asking where his mummy and daddy are, he pointed to me and said ‘there’s my mummy, I don’t have a Daddy’. She said why not and he simply said ‘because some people don’t have Daddy’s and some people don’t have Mummy’s’ and that was the end of the conversation. So proud of him 🥺

My family situation growing up was “different” but I was always fully aware and used to be very matter of fact about it. I still am now as an adult. Honestly is the best policy with children, it’s empowering. Well done to you x

@Vickie thank you. It’s a really difficult one to know what to do so it’s good to hear it from your/his perspective. I really wanted to tell him how proud I was of him for dealing with the conversation so well but then I didn’t want him to see it as a big deal so I’ve not even mentioned it to him.

That’s amazing understanding from such a small kid and I feel it’s the right decision to not make a big deal out of it. It sounds like you have done some amazing work teaching him this attitude!
