Self employed - earning whilst getting mat allowance. UK

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help or is in a similar position. I am self employed sole trader and have my first baby due late October. My nature of my work means I work with a client but the. Might only get paid for this work a few months later. I plan to claim maternity allowance and then no set plan for returning to work yet. I may do the odd bit of work here and there depending on how it goes when the baby is here. I’ve been googling and from what I can see I am allowed to still work self employed and earn whilst I am on maternity allowance? Just wanted to see if anyone knew this is true. My worry is I don’t want to claim and then be asked for any of it back if they see I’ve had income whilst claiming it. Thanks for any help 😊

I’m in the same boat so would be interested to see if anyone has any info 😊

From what I understand you can’t earn while claiming MA. You’re allowed a few “keeping in touch days” but not to work regularly. Which is rubbish!

You can take on work for up to 10 KIT days without affecting your MA payment. You do have to keep a record of the days worked or DWP will make their own estimates. Anything more than 10 days disqualifies you. What you might have been seeing online is that you can take on self employed work while receiving SMP but that doesn't apply in this case.
