Confused with due date.

My due date does not line up with the last time I had sex. How does that make sense?! Acording to my due date, the estimated conception date is 2-3 weeks AFTER I had sex. Dr is convinced that my due date is accurate based on three early ultrasounds. Make it make sense. 🙈

They're a best guess. And they move them anyway based on measurements. I honestly wouldn't worry unless there's more than one potential father

They are just estimated dates. But they count day one of your cycle as part of those calculations. For example, I found out I was pregnant on June 30, 2022 and was “4 weeks and 3 days along” but the sex had happened on the 8th that same month. Sperm can also survive for (I think) 5 days inside us so you don’t actually get pregnant the same day you have sex. I hope this made sense lol. For me, (as I found out with that pregnancy) My highest chances of getting pregnant are days 7-9ish, not day 14 when ovulation “occurs” but that’s just my body. Your ovulation could be different too.

@Kayla I hadn't had a period for about 6 month prior to getting pregnant. 😳 so, that wouldn't help with any calculations. 😅

@Aimee I wasnt worried, but being close to the end of my pregnancy makes me want to know more conclusively when I should be expecting this baby.. all of my other children were 2 weeks early. I am getting a little anxious over here LOL

They didn’t work out conception date although I knew when mine was as my husband worked away and only saw him one weekend a month at the time. But they base it off your last period. Mine was 26th January but I know we conceived on 9th Feb and all the dates add up for that. But they never asked when I think I conceived, they only went by last period date as it’s more accurate cause many won’t know when you ovulated and when the egg was fertilised as sperm can live for 5 days. I also had regular periods. But when you have your 12 week scan they will tell you your estimated due date more accurately then with baby measurements at that gestational age. It’s hard for them to tell so early on x

Oh goodness! Yeah that would make it hard. My guess is they were going based off of the size of your baby. While my due date never changed, my cousin’s due date changed 3 times during her pregnancy and it was just due to how big her baby was. So based on my little knowledge it would be my guess they were going based off of your babies size. Congratulations! I hope you have a smooth pregnancy ♥️

Maybe you ovulated really late that cucle? Hence your baby measuring smaller than expected date?

My second girl was born the day after her due date based on the early scans they did on her. So I would definitely take note of those dates.

Sperm can live inside u for 5 days. Then im not sure how long it can take for implantation to occur. . . But 2-3 weeks seems like a stretch. My due date was off from the last time I had sex. And my baby was 1 week early (more in line with when we had sex and not the doctor due date)

I’m in the same boat and it drove me crazy at first!! I’ve learned to accept it more with time. Their guess is off by a just around a week, except he’s now measuring more with my LMP / cycle like I expected so I think it can truly take 1-2 wks before you’re seeing the gestational age officially begin and initiating being “pregnant”. It can be a process up to a week or 2 before implantation occurs

The ultrasounds measure the size of your baby. The size correlates to an "age". Mine was always "off" as well, and didn't matter in the end because my son was born two weeks before that date anyway. They have to use the medical measurements for their records. Dates can get muddy, especially because many pregnancies are unplanned and people don't know when they conceived. Take it all with a grain of salt and "use" whatever due date you want for yourself. I used the due date I was originally given for my whole pregnancy, even though it changed later. Again, didn't matter since he came early lol.
