Gestational diabetes

Anyone else find out that they have it? I was told I was one point over so I’m classed as diabetic in this pregnancy! A bit gutted and scared as I don’t know where to start 😣

Just had my test today, was awful, waiting on results!

Check out the Gestational Diabetes UK face book group/website for lots of advice. The NHS dietary guidelines aren’t great but GDUK is a good place to start. I had GD in my first pregnancy and I’m awaiting my second test this time round as I was borderline at 16 weeks. It’s not the worst thing in the world but it can feel overwhelming at times!

Hi there, if you don’t mind me asking how many weeks are you? And when do they do the test? I am 29 weeks pregnant and I haven’t had a test yet. I have had 2 colleagues have gestational diabetes and they were absolutely fine! They just had to change their diet slightly and had more frequent scans (which they really enjoyed). Nevertheless, I know this is anxiety provoking and unknown I Hope you’re okay!

@Abigail it’s so boring isn’t it 😅 hope everything is okay x

@Amy thank you! I’ve joined the group😊 it’s just scary what you read online what can happen. I didn’t have it with mt first so I didn’t have the worry

@Izzy had it done when I was dead on 28 weeks (Tuesday). Have the midwife’s said you need one? As you may not. Not everyone does luckily. Oh that’s good to hear. Yes I think that’s the only positive about it, getting to see baby more. Yes it is a little. Thank you 😊

So I had my test about a week ago? I also have gestational diabetes.. it’s a shock to the system but my mum also had it with me? I got a phone call the following day about it ? I had a meeting they gave me a device for my sugars and I have to test 4 times a day? An I’ve had to do a diet.. for now my bloods are doing okay? But in some cases the baby can grow larger and they will take everything you say into account.. so make sure if something dose not feel right you tell triage or your midwife. An just more appointments.. it’s a lot to take in so if you need any help or someone to talk to don’t hesitate to message !
