How to register baby for dentist?

My 10 months old has had his first tooth come through so I'm keen to get him to a dentist soon. I live in Wales and was wondering if I literally just have to call up local dentist surgery's and see if they will take him? Is there any other way to go about it?

That’s what we did in England so unless Wales is dramatically different, I would do that

I work in a dental practice, just call and register quick and easy 🩷

It’s just like any one else registering call up it only took me few mins and was called in next week to get my little one teeth checked was 1 at the time

It depends if you have a preference on where you would like them to go and if you want it through NHS. If you do then I would ring and ask if they have space available or go on their waiting list. Your health visitor should have an email address that you can send an email to to ask to be put on the nhs waiting list for dentists in the area otherwise. My little boy has been on the waiting list since 3 months old and has only now been registered with a dentist x

When I was pregnant my dental surgery told me my baby would get registered with them, I just needed to add them on to my check up apt and then they registered him x

Gov website has a find a dentist page and it will show close by dentists and tell you if they're taking on NHS patients or not ☺️

In England so not sure if it's the same but my own dentist just added him as a patient as soon as we needed to.

Yup. Make sure you say their age immediately. They like saying no to NHS patients pretty quickly on the phone. I got turned down for 2 for my 4 year old step son before one let me say his age and they were like oh we can do his age absolutely! The NHS website for Wales unfortunately does not have a page saying whether they're taking patients or not, you just have to call.

@Keeley not in Wales unfortunately. That page only works for dentists in England.
