Thoughts on multiple middle names?

For instance if it honours both grandparents (I don’t like choosing just one)…

That’s exactly what we did, new first name, my dad’s name, his dad’s name, last name. It makes for quite a long name but it really doesn’t cause any problems. Definitely no regrets. Although If we have a second son we may change his name so he has one grandpa and the second son has the other or something like that

I personally don’t like it but I think it’s pretty common currently

We considered it for our daughter but our state requires multiple middle names to have a dash between them and I hated it haha

@Keni oh that’s so weird, nah I wouldn’t do that either

@Heather my husband doesn’t like it either so don’t think it will happen, just struggling to come up with just one middle name!!

I think we're going to do multiple middle names. For both of baby's grandmothers. It feels weird to just pick one to me, too.

I have two middle names and so does my brother. It's quite common in Greek and Italian families (both of which my family are). We're only giving our little girl one middle name, but yeah, I wouldn't blink twice at someone with two middle names. Three is where I'd raise a brow 😉

My daughter has two, both related to family members but purely because the one my partner wanted in there I don't like (but I'm being respectful) so I put my nans name first. Tbh I prefer one middle name but my partner also has 2.

I think it’s totally fine and absolutely love when names honour special people. I think it’s pretty common to have 2. 3/4+ is much more unusual and can imagine could be a pain with forms etc.

My daughter has 2 middle names and we are considering 3 for my son. Not that bothered if anyone thinks it's weird. Apart from your passport or applying for something like at the bank you hardly use your middle names. I definitely don't from day to day so I can't see why it would be a problem or be a burden.

All my nieces and nephew have two I just think it’s pleasing both sides of the family’s. Personally don’t like it makes it’s a bit of a mouthfull. I only have one and I’m planning to double barrel my surname when I get married can you imagine if I had two middle names too! I decided I didn’t want to please people I wanted to please myself so went with one middle name for my son and plan to do same again.

I had 1 middle name (removed it for various reasons so now have none) but my partner has 2. We chose 2 for the boy and girl names we wanted, so our LG is named after her 3 great-grandmothers of you include first names. I have a friend with 4 middle names and she has to choose 2 to go on ID/bank cards etc, but they all have meaning behind them and she was an only child so had all the family names haha

Depends on how long the names are. I had two middle names prior to getting married (changed it when I got married because of how annoying it was). I thought my name sounded fine, it was just super annoying any time I had to fill out official forms. Especially ones where you put one letter in each box. In total, my name is 30 letters plus 4 spaces and there’s never enough boxes for that so it always gave me problems. Even my social security card didn’t match my birth certificate because it couldn’t fit that many letters. If the names are short enough, it’s fine. But if you have long names, it can be a total pain for your child in the future. My cousin with two middle names also deals with the same problems and hates it. Except he’s a man so he was never able to change it when he got married.
