Contraceptive pill

Hi everyone, I first went on the pill when I was 15 and didn't come off it until August 2022 when we tried for our baby- it took 2 weeks for me to fall pregnant so never had the break through bleed when coming off. Anyway, my baby is 13 months now and I would like to go back on the pill now that I am no longer breastfeeding. I was on rigivedon the combined pill and I am really hoping I can go back on that as I know my body agreed with it etc. I have an appointment on the 24th August about going back on it, but just wanted some advice please. I started my PP period about 4 months ago. They haven't exactly been 'regular', I've been getting one a month but they are now HEAVY, which I never had being on the pill and they don't fall the same time every month. My period this month started the 4th August and I came off yesterday. My 30th birthday is 9th September and I really do not want to be on my period for that. My question is... Because I was 15 when I went on the pill the first time she I just cannot remember. If I start taking the pill on 24th August when I have my appointment, will I then not get a period until I have my break through bleed at the end of the pill packet? Or will I still get my period as usual? And also, has anyone found that their body has reacted differently to the pill after pregnancy than they did before? Thanks all 😘

From what I remember you wait for your period to come then couple days in you start the pill that stops the period then you will get a breakthrough end of the pill packet

@Em Oh really? I don't remember having to wait for my period, but it was 15 years ago 🤣 that's a shame, I really don't want to be on my period for my 30th birthday 🙃

If you are due around your birthday and you don't want to be on you can get a pill that delays your period I believe for two week. Ask a pharmacist about it. You'd have to pay for it but that might be an option

You can also back to back your pill for months. The only reason there is a break every month is so the Vatican would approve the pill. There is no need to actually have a break on the combined pill

you don’t need to wait for your period and you also don’t have to wait to quit breastfeeding aha

@Emily my doctor told me I couldn't go on the combined pill if I was breastfeeding and the mini pill never agreed with me all those years ago 😩

@Helen I used to go three packets before having a break when I was on it. The nurse said I had to have a break every 3 months otherwise the risk of blood clots was too high

@Jess I have never been on rivagidon to be fair. I only ever had one period a year and that would be because I'd get spotting that wouldn't stop unless i had a break. None of the nurses have said I shouldn't do this. Maybe some of the others done have as high a clot risk

@Jess yeh it’s so that you know you defo aren’t pregnant if your period comes but if you know you defo aren’t then I’d just take it asap

@Helen I still bleed when I have back to back lol so annoying

@Emily you do for the combined pill, which rivagidon is. You can only have the progesterone only pill while breast feeding :)
