Doula

I would love to hear people's experience with having a Birth Doula. Pros and Cons. Also, any recommendations?

I haven’t given birth yet - due in October. But I’m using the birthing center and was required to get a doula. So far, it’s been amazing. Once hired, most allow contact 24/7. I’ve had a few concerns and was able to reach out to my doula over the weekend for peace of mind and answers whereas I would’ve had to go to the hospital or wait until Monday for my doctor’s office to open. The education and support have been wonderful. I truly feel more prepared and have little anxiety regarding birth, mostly due to my doula. I’m using Jamie at Little Blooming Warriors.

Definitely look them up and schedule several interviews before choosing one. There’s lots of great doulas, but that doesn’t mean they’ll be the right fit for you. You need one who fits your personality and values.

Before my birth mine was amazing. She claimed she would be there as soon as we felt like we needed her. I had to be induced and my doula refused to come to the hospital because I was still in "early labor" (I was practically unconscious from the pain despite my high pain tolerance because my baby wasn't in the right spot & was too big.) By the time she finally came I had given in and got an epidural. I ended up having a c section and my husband did all my support. It didnt seem like she did anything to be honest. In my specific situation I feel like it was a waste of money but I feel like that is because of the doula we had & my specific birth complications. I'm sure other doulas would've been amazing.
