Question

They want to put me on metformin because of my fasting in the morning being slightly higher, I work 2-10 majority of the time in my health care role and I’m lucky if I even eat sometimes, she’s said that I need to eat before 6.30pm and I’ve explained that I can’t always. Am I wrong for having an issue with this? My midwife said that the cut off to be considered to have GD was 7.8 and above, my results were 7.8 so I was already a bit annoyed as surely that’s borderline rather than full on GD?

Maybe you can do your fasting level a little later in the morning? I sometimes don't get to eat dinner until after 9pm. Pregnancy insomnia has me waking up at 5.30am most days. I still won't measure my blood sugars until around 8 / 9am when I'm thinking about having breakfast.. Have you had many fasting spikes? I've had a few but not consistently. Tip from me, I found out that heartburn relief is not always sugar-free, and I was chewing down tablets in the middle of the night and always getting a morning spike 😂 I've switched to sugar-free now and that seems to have helped 🙏

Struggling too. I eat my last meal/snack around 6:30-7:30pm. And get up around 5:30 am usually starving. My bf is up around 3 am for work. My fasting numbers can be high 3-4 days a week too. I think it’s too long of a fast or just the hormones. I’m still in limbo. He said he wanted me on meds and then didn’t give me meds. So idk what we are doing at this point. I’m eat so much more healthier the last three weeks than I did trimester 2 but I’m not sure what the end game plan is for me

Keep testing. Go on Metformin. Comply with that part but the times, if you can't commit to the times. Don't worry. Listen to them but if it's not possible and you can't control your shifts and what you work, when you eat in work, then that's out of your control. I was having similar issues when i had to work opening and closing shifts in my first pregnancy. I eventually cut my shifts down to 4 hours due to PGP in my first pregnancy and got told 4 hours is too long to go without food. So in my first pregnancy, it seemed like I was battling them when I had to work and had no control over times and stuff

@Lucy be careful with this - fasting levels need to be taken first thing when you wake up, before you get up and do anything, otherwise your body will be using those wake up sugars before you have a chance to test them. You want to make sure you test preferably before you get out of bed otherwise you might miss a hidden spike which could be detrimental for baby x

@Emma well not sure how combat that I’m up with pregnancy insomnia and bf getting up at 1:45 am then I should be testing then?? Or 3:30 because it takes me an hour to back to sleep. I force myself to go back to sleep and not eat until at least 5:30 am. No one wants to test in the middle of the night. I just don’t think all of this is sustainable

@Brooke I'm the same 😞 so probably insulin is the best solution to be safe, as much as I wanted to avoid it! It's soooo tough

When exactly should you be testing? Pregnancy insomnia is real I find it hard to sleep and I wake up to pee 4 -5 times during the night and takes long to fall back asleep. When should I test?
