Impossible to reach midwife team

Even via email I get no response it’s so upsetting because I’m just left to deal with my symptoms not knowing if it’s normal! I’ve been suffering with headaches every day for over a week. (31wks) I manage them with paracetamol and I’m drinking water regularly. I just want to get in touch with my midwife to discuss this with her rather than wait for my appointment on the 29th because it’s effecting me a lot. I’m not Sure what else I can do😢

Have they provided you with a maternity helpline number?

that sounds very odd. generally they are there 24/7. call the hospital and ask to be put through to maternity helpline.

High blood pressure can also cause headaches. You are worried about anything you should go to Triage.

They provided me with their team number and the triage/labour line - I’ve tried both and I’m unable to get through. I’m going to have to get my husband to drive me to triage. It shouldn’t be this hard!

No it shouldn't 😔. Definitely go in person x

Been through this, if u really r concerned call 111 or just take urself a&e. I was unable to contact midwives with my 1st and when i saw them in person they ignored symptoms on 3 occasions before i asked to be switched, but by then it was too late and i needed to stay in hospital... this time around i had the same midwives and esrly on could feel id end up with the same issues so i switched gp and hospital so now have completely differenr care and i can tell u the difference is astounding. So drastic that i really feel i should report my old midwives for neglect. No mum should be worrying and have no professionals to turn to. I hope things end up ok xx

@Tahirah you’re absolutely right. I’m so sorry you had to go through that. That’s awful, and they should be reported! I’m definitely going to be putting in a complaint, it’s not okay. I’m going to triage today so hopefully I’ll get some answers. Thank you for taking the time to comment ❤️

Np and i hope it all turns out ok for u n baby 🥰

On another note I also have a week lasting headache that i don’t know how to address! I went to the hospital over the weekend to get checked for preeclampsia, but everything else came back normal so they sent me away. Really weird as I never get headaches and still don’t know how to manage it and if I should worry or not. Don’t panic yet, but you’ll have to go there to get checked for high BP and urine anyway, regardless of whether you speak to a midwife or not over the phone.

At 31 weeks A/E isn’t the correct place to be seen with headaches. If you’re unable to get an email response or a call back then just show up at your maternity triage unit at the hospital. Aim to get there early at 8.30am. All services in the NHS are stretched - but if you show up they should see you.

Thank you all for your responses. I ended up going into triage and they did a urine, blood and blood pressure test as well as monitoring baby’s heartbeat and movement and all was well. They believe the headaches maybe related to the change in weather so they were able to rule out preeclampsia.

I’m also 31 weeks and have had headaches for about a week. I have a BP monitor at home which I use 3 times a week and my BP is fine, also no other symptoms. I’m putting it down to hormones x

I never had any issues with Croydon midwife team. I was under the birth centre and they were amazing and very responsive. If you have any major concern call Triage or 111 and mention not getting any response at your next antenatal appointment
