Ferber/CIO

I am on day 4 of attempting Ferber, but the check ins seem to cause more harm than good for my baby. I hate letting her cry, but she won’t stop crying if I keep going in. Anyone here have experience with CIO that didn’t absolutely hurt your heart

I had the same experience, it’s not easy, especially when going in only makes it worse. Just keep reminding yourself that it’s for BOTH of you and when you come out the other side, it’s an amazing thing. My son sleeps better, wakes up happier, is less sleepy thru the day, and so am I!! I can be present and enjoy our time together because I’m not exhausted. I almost threw in the towel on night 7, and night 10 he slept thru the night without a peep, and has done so ever since (minus some teething…). Also - it’s not linear. It doesn’t get progressively better, it’s like all of the sudden it clicks. I hear this a lot and that was my experience, so even if it seems like it’s not working…it is!! Stay strong mama!!

Hey mama! I hear you! How old is your little one? The Ferber method is a hard one to manage at times, but it’s worth it for sure. Day 4 is a challenge, but you are so close to such sweet sleep success! I encourage you to stick with it and push through. Put your ears buds in, crank up some good tunes, watch the clock and know you’re doing something great FOR your little one! A lot of times, checking in with them is hard, so I would suggest prolonging the intervals a bit more and really listen to her. Is she calming down at all throughout the timed waits? Allow her the opportunity to settle herself if she needs it. When you do go in to check do you do so in a “stoic way”? Open the door, say your sleep mantra, and then leave. Try your best not to physically offer your touch at all and be quick. This is her time to figure things out and you are the one who is there encouraging her every step of the way. I hope this all helps momma! You’re doing your best and this is what matters!

We ended up just having to straight do CIO cause the same thing happened to us the check ins were making it worse. I will say she only cried for 30 minutes one night, 15ish the next, and the 3rd night only 5 minutes and then it was just roll over and sleep. It broke my heart to hear her cry but eventually she realized this is just for sleep mommy isn’t going to be gone forever.

@Beth so she cried for over an hour & finally stopped because it was time for a feed, so I fed her. & she cried for a minute and stopped. She’s so tired but won’t lay down. She’s literally sitting in the corner with her head bobbing because she’s falling asleep sitting up and then it wakes her up.

We did Ferber method with my daughter at 8 months, and it definitely got worse before it got better. I think the 3rd & 4th night were the hardest bc she would cry more during check ins, but I believe around the 6th day is when she eventually figured it out and put herself to sleep after 10mins without check ins. My advice is maybe keep trying it for a few more days, and if it doesn’t get better by day 7 then you can try CIO. All babies are different, and you know your baby better than anyone so do what you think would work best for your baby. Good luck! Wishing you better sleep for you and your baby!! ❤️

@julie she’s 10&1/2 months. I have definitely extended check ins. I think the short ones are too short for her. Tonight she finally stopped crying, but she’s sitting up and won’t lay down.

It’s okay for her to stay sitting up. She will figure things out on her own. I’m glad she is getting g to sleep. I hope you will do the same. 😊

I tried & failed so many times! We finally did it successfully at 13 months. It came with several regressions though!
