Maternity Leave

I’m currently just under 30 weeks pregnant, and am thinking about when to take my maternity leave. I get nine months off with SMP, however will be returning to work on a part time basis due to strongly not wanting to send baby to nursery. My partner will be financially supporting us. When do most start their leave? x

My last day will be 18th August and I'll be taking my 3 weeks annual leave that I had left X then from 22nd sept my maternity will start

I'm taking annual leave from September 1st then maternity leave October 1st. Due 25th but currently expecting induction around 18th due to GD, same happened with my first.

Those planning to take their maternity leave 3+ weeks before their due date - what do you plan on doing before baby comes? I wonder if I should take mine earlier but I also wonder if I'd be really bored Also to answer the question, mine officially starts 2 weeks before my due date :)

Maternity leave in the company where I work starts the day after you give birth, so I am going on annual leave 2 weeks before

I’m waiting until I go into labour 😅

@Laura Isi this is the same everywhere, it’s the Gov guidelines that state mat pay must commence immediately once baby is born I believe! Im due 8th oct and finishing on the 14th sept (3 weeks of AL pay) and then mat pay kicks in on his due date (unless he comes earlier)

I’m due 16 October, my mat leave starts that day but I’m using some annual leave so my last day at work will be 30 September

Im due 19th October, last day of work will be 30th September (37+2) then taking 9 days annual leave so my maternity leave will officially start on the 14th October. With my first I worked up until 38+2 using annual leave until 39+2 and I had my baby at 39+2. All depends on you and how you feel/ how uncomfortable working is for you and how much down time you'd ideally like before baby arrives etc.

@Julia with my first I had about 6 weeks of annual leave (COVID times so it was carried over), mat leave from due date. Can't remember much of what I did. Think I had a couple weeks of baby moon, decorating nursery, seeing family, just chilling. This time my husband is starting his first teaching job September 2nd which is partly why I'm going off then, to support him and look after all the house stuff. Family coming to visit for a couple of weeks. Have GD again so likely to have baby 39 weeks latest, possibly 38. Decorating over August but plan to unpack baby stuff and put in nursery, check I have everything. Sort hospital bags. See mum friends from first pregnancy that it's hard to see as we all have different working patterns. My first turns 3 in September so sort her party & presents. I think the time will be gone before I know it! Also making the most of resting and me time as that is non-existent in newborn days.

@Tanya thanks Tan! I don't know what to expect as it's my first but have a feeling she'll come late, so I worry if I go early I'll have another 2 weeks on top of my due date 😅 sounds like it's worth it even just for the relaxation part x

@Julia yeah I get it, you could go to like 42 weeks as first babies are usually later. But when I had a newborn having a shower was my me/rest time so definitely make the most of that 😂

I'm starting my mat leave 2 weeks before my due date

I’ll be taking mine 9th oct , I’ll be just under by a day 37 weeks x

@Gemma literally same 🤣

@Tanya my first born🥇 daughter was born 19th October 🥰🩷 my last child I'm currently pregnant with is a boy x I'll be induced end of September x

Due: 27 September Mat leave starts: 23 September Annual leave starts: 2 September Last working day: 30 August (don't work weekends in my role) I only get SMP too but we can afford for me to take full year (I don't fancy returning to work in June just to miss all of the summer and consider myself lucky that it's an option) I'm 33+3 today and really struggling with my bump size and the heat. I know I'm going to be a little bored on my AL but as it will be one of the last times I'll be bored in my life I don't think I'll mind too much. Spending a lot of time on vinted buying baby's clothes for first 12 months. I hate clothes shopping as does hubby so it'll be good to have that as less pressure, and I also intend to do loads of batch cooking with hubby and freezing. We have 34 takeaway pots so the first month or so we'll have nutritious food if we're not up for it. At the moment we're eating down our freezer supplies yo make room for the future quick meals 🥰

I'm due in the 20th October and I start my mat leave on the 14th
