Advice needed

Hiya, just looking for advice- I’m currently 36 weeks with DCDA twins- consultant is pushing for induction next week and I have my reservations. Placenta’s are functioning well as per my scan on Wednesday, no gestational diabetes or pre-eclampsia with no growth restrictions or concerns with either twin. I understand that there is an increase of risk carrying to term (if they even made it that far) but I feel this decision isn’t based on me or my babies therefore feeling a little out of control with this. I don’t want to put myself or them at risk, but I also understand induction can lead to greater risk at times/more interventions and I’d love a vaginal birth if possible as both babies are head down. What have or would you do in my position? What should I ask the consultant to make sure this is the right choice for me and my babies? Thank you so much in advance 💗

If you can, let mother nature and your body do its thing. Having premature babies is so so hard (I only made it to 34 weeks) and if there are no risks currently and they are happy inside I would let their lungs grow just a little more! You will know when you and your babies are ready ❤️❤️

That's strange that they're pushing for induction. I was begging to set my induction sooner and my OB said that DCDA twins are the least complicated twin pregnancy and really gets treated more like a singleton pregnancy unless there are complications. He wouldn't let me set my induction for any sooner than 38w3d. Aaannndddd it didn't matter anyways cause they came on their own at 36w1d perfectly healthy with zero nicu time! If there's no medical reason for induction and you don't want it, don't do it!

When I was trying to decide what birth I wanted, I was told that with it being a multiple pregnancy and my age (39), passed 37 weeks the placentas start to not function as well so I would have to go for weekly monitoring and if that turned out to be the case I'd have to be induced or have the c section then. I ended up having a c section but had I not had PGP would have opted to try for uninduced labour and the weekly monitoring.

I would start all methods of trying to get them here, curry, kerb walking, the deed, try go natural.. and maybe ask to be induced shortly after 38 weeks not to cause an issue but then give your body time to go naturally first x

Ah the dream pregnancy! I so so wanted this but my cheeky twins were both breech. I got to 37 weeks without even a damn hint of them showing up, no pre-eclampsia, no GD and tbh I wasn't even all that uncomfortable yet, sleeping like a baby with my toddler knackering me put each day. I would probably in your sitch ride out to 38 weeks and see. At that point I would probably consider induction. They may be pushing for it at 37 because if it takes a couple days then you're still giving birth in their 'ideal week' but if you go beyond 38 then it's on paper not their ideal week x

Sounds like you need to ask for more details of your individual risk assessment & take someone with you to the appointment who will advocate for you when the Doc is getting pushy. Midwives I have met suggest the BRAIN approach for these conversations & asking for specific statistics 📊 Benefits Risks Alternatives Intuition (your gut feeling) Nothing (next steps if you choose this option, such as regular monitoring)

My MFM also keeps pushing for an early C section (twin B is breech )but we compromised on 37 weeks as long as I get NSTs twice a week . Also thankfully so far no complications but she said better too early than too late

@Lana that's so strange.. usually as long as Baby A is head down you're good to go for vaginal. My Baby B was breech until 34.5 weeks and we were still planning on vaginal, I'd push out A and then he'd reach in and pull out B by her feet. But she ended up flipping head down about a week before I had them so he didn't end up having to pull her out(:

I wanted to give birth to my DCDA twins, they induced me at 38 weeks they recommended that the best time, I did notice the placentas weren’t functioning as well the longer they stayed in, I was monitored every week because of that. They weighted 4lb 6 and 5lb 2 and didn’t need nicu. I was induced about 1pm ish and gave birth before midnight. I wanted the induction as I couldn’t go any further it was too painful but I had no issues luckily, I know every birth is different. It’s not as scary as I thought induction would be. Definitely find out all of your options and the pros and cons of each one.
