Sertraline

Has anyone taken this before? Can you tell me about the side effects? I’ve just been prescribed this 50mg x1 daily for my anxiety & the GP has warned me I can feel worse before better but I’m interested to hear others experiences x

My side affects was bad sickness, not having an appetite, but only last 2 weeks, but yeah they made my anxiety feel worse before it got better, just try keep yourself busy if you can x

My main symptom was poor sleep. I ended up I couldn’t take it past a certain time of day as it kept me awake literally all night. Some dizziness etc also but nothing too crazy. I don’t recall feeling worse as such but it did take a while to notice even a slight difference. I also found it stopped working so I was having to have the dose increased fairly regularly

I've been on it for just over a year and although there are side effects, it has literally changed my life. I was in the less common group of people who noticed an almost immediate difference, but as mentioned above it can take a while and can get worse before it gets better. One of the worst side effects for me was a loss of interest in sex or intimacy. I'm now weaning off the meds and beginning to get my libido back. If I forget to take it, then by the end of the day I feel really nauseous and headachy. When I first started taking it, and now I'm reducing the amount, it made me really tired but the gp said it can give people insomnia so I chose to not take it at nighttime, even though I felt really tired. But saying all that, it really is the best thing I've ever done :). All the best! 🤍

Thanks ladies. I have such bad anxiety, mostly around being unwell (specifically vomitting) which makes me even more anxious to take it in case I get the sickness side effect. But I really want to see it through to get the benefits as I just can’t live with this horrible pit anymore x

If you do get too many side effects ask to be swapped to citalopram or something different. Sometimes though if they’re only mild side effects the benefits definitely outweigh the negatives. You got this 💪🏻

Hey, hope you’re ok and thanks for sharing with us all. I was on it in the past for similar reasons and it’s a low dosage so you shouldn’t get too many side effects. Everyone is different remember that so what one person might experience might not be the same for the other. I remember feeling the same and worrying and almost feeling like a failure as I had to go on it at 21 and my auntie said to me that I will never forget…who gives a F*** if you have to take a tablet for the rest of your life if it makes waking up and getting on with your day that bit easier 💖💖!! I couldn’t agree more as it’s helped me during a difficult time and was lucky to be able to wean myself off when I felt able. Anxiety is physiological and you can sometimes make yourself worse by overthinking and would also recommend some calming techniques and additional therapies like acupuncture, meditation etc as it helps to calm and soothe the mind and body!! You’ve got this xxxx🤗

I didn’t really get any symptoms but I think i was just lucky. The only thing that happened when I started taking them was that I felt like I was on an adrenaline rush for the first day and then that was gone. They helped me more than I can say

I've been on Sertraline for a few months and I felt really sleepy for the first few weeks, so I take it just before bed but honestly it's been a game changer for me mood wise. I finally feel like myself again and everything just seems so much "easier" if that makes sense. Things that would have really triggered my anxiety before, now just don't seem to bother me so it's definitely worth a try 🤍🤍🤍

I had the worst dry mouth when I first started and I lost my appetite. I personally found it best to take before bed but see what works best for you. It's been nearly a year now and no significant symptoms now. It probably makes me feel more tired but aren't we all tired now we're mums 😂

This is all really reassuring, thanks all ❤️

Main symptoms for me was tiredness so wa so tired I’ve been on them 7 weeks now they do help I take mine in morning as can cause insomnia too xx

I had no side effects on 50mg and again none when I went up to 100mg! I did have the worst panic attack the first night being on them but as they say it did get worse before it got better☺️
