Nappy rash

So my 20month old keeps on suffering with nappy rash. I'm changing his bum every hour at the moment because I don't want him to keep getting it however no matter how quickly I change him he is still getting sore. He's currently not that sore on his bum it's gone onto his leg Any advice on how to stop it?

Metanium cream! Put it on a couple of times a day, a thin layer does the trick.

I've tried that, I don't know if it stings it because he physically won't let me put it on him anymore. He let me put some sudo crème on it this morning x

Are you using baby wipes or cotton wool? Xx

Aww poor baba. I'd keep the nappy off let the air get to it, yes he might wee or poo but its better than making it worse. Sudcream or if metanuim doesn't work id go the docs

Hi,have you try bepanthen cream? I've try on my little one and it worked xx

@Trinity baby wipes x

@Jenni I've been letting him have no nappy on but my mother in law lives with us and keeps moaning about him weeing on the floor. I personally don't care it can be cleaned but she keeps going mad. I've got a doctors appointment for this afternoon so hopefully they can do something to help x

@Michaela I haven't tried it but I'll try anything x

I would try cleaning the area with cotton wool and cooled boiled water. Try get into the doctors too as it might be skin condition related such as excema or he might be having a reaction to something x

Try cotton wool and water instead it can be much more gentle for his skin, hopefully it clears up soon for him poor chap 🥺 x

Have you tried changing the brand of nappies and wipes?

My baby had the same and I use sudocrem with every nappy change and it cleared up and has not returned

Aww hope the docs goes okay. X

i know they’re a nightmare and i don’t use them myself because of the extra work but could it be worth trying reusable nappies? the fabric might be a bit gentler on the skin that the fibres and plastics in disposable nappies. hope the little guy feels better soon, and stay strong you’re doing so well x

Have you tried changing the brand of nappies or putting breastmilk on it if you breastfeed?

Have you tried having nappy off time? Pop him on a puppy pad and get his bum breathe?

We had the same issue! We switched to water wipes (expensive but worth it), once we cleaned him we’d put some breastmilk on a pad and wipe the area and then layer a thick load of Vaseline and sudocrem every nappy change which did the trick for us, once it cleared we stopped the breastmilk and it seems to have stayed clear

Try changing the nappy brand and use some breastmilk on the skin if you can?

I would say definitely take to the GP, I can see from your updates you have an appointment ☺️

Try changing the brand. Mine had this with the Sainsbury’s nappy’s too but is fine with pampers x

Have you tried different brand wipes? My son used to get really bad nappy rashes and it turned out it was the wipes I was using and was only ok with sensitive pampers wipes. Even the sensitive version of other brands was not ok.

I would suggest trying a different brand of nappies, because it’s on the leg too it makes me think it’s the nappy as it rubs on the leg too as they wear it. Sainsbury’s have changed their nappies very recently so it could just be that your son isn’t getting on with them now

Try all of the above ^ & when applying cream remove old cream first so fresh cream is on clean skin. Bepanthen always worked for us. Sudocrem too. Consistency with nappy changes as you’re doing and hopefully that does the trick🤞 we’ve even bathed in a shallow warm bath after a few moments nappy free if really bad then creamed afterwards xx

Metanium yellow cream is brilliant! My son used to get bad nappy rash and it worked a treat x

@Katie yes I did think that. It's ever since Sainsbury's changed their nappies it's been happening x

Metanium for a cream. As for while he's got the rash goto a pharmacy and ask for some medicated cream, we had two for my LG as she got it really bad after her year jabs. We had Timodine and then Canisten. Canisten finally got rid of it. Sudocrem do a nappy rash specific cream rather than the barrier cream too that seems to be quite good. I'd recently changed nappies too from Beaming baby to cheaper brands. Went back to using beaming baby as she's got sensitive skin like her mum lol! Looking at the picture it does look like a friction burn more than a nappy rash, what size is he in? Maybe try another brand or sizing up. Making sure they're dry before putting the nappy on too helps. Even wet wipes can be too damp on their lil bums and cause friction rashes.

Use cotton wool and warm water to clean him, pat dry then put some Vaseline. Vaseline was the only thing that worked for all of mine so worth a try

I would definitely give something else a go then! My daughter gets on really well with pampers

Sainsburys nappies caused this on my daughter, she'd scream when weeing and when changing her. Swapped to another brand and cleared straight up

Have some nappy free time and air their bottom out. Metanium cream is amazing!!! Also agree with changing brand of nappy x
