Hey. congratulations!!! The gp won’t do anything except prescribe you folic acid. That first appointment is the booking appointment at around 8 weeks where they just ask you lots of questions about you, the baby’s father, health etc. They will usually do bloods and a urine test. First time pregnancy it’s a bit of a long appointment probably over an hour. And then you should get your 12 week scan appointment from the hospital you chose!
They don't generally check your hcg blood levels in the UK, unless you have had previous issues. As others have said, the first appointment with the midwife is your booking appointment so they'll go through your medical history, your family history and baby's dad's family history, take bloods, weigh you and risk assess if you need to be cared for under a consultant. They'll also refer you/book you in for your dating scan as well and discuss any concerns you have x
@Lucy I have a booking blood test today but then a family history appointment in a few weeks time. So will my appointment be just as long? Idk what to expect as I’m leaving work for the blood test 🤣
@Dominika hey I have no clue! I’ve never had that! If it’s only a blood test you should be in and out no? 🤷🏼♀️

Congratulations, at my first booking in session which I had at 8 weeks they took a urine sample, blood test and just asked if I had any questions! It was my 12 week MW app that we went into more detail about family health etc xx

@Dominika hi! This has popped up on my page, I had my little girl in April this year. Booking bloods are a whole range of bloods that check your iron, b12 etc to make sure everything is okay. They also check your blood group etc x
@Ellie do they ever check your hcg? Like I just want proof in pregnant 🤣

I am the same!! Tested positive on Monday (and every day since as obvs testing constantly #anxiety) I filled out a form with Frimley hospital and got a text saying ‘see ya on 18th Sept’ and that’s it! I’m wondering if all this is even real! I was thinking of doing an early scan in a few weeks just for reassurance ✨ due 24th April which feels a million years away right now!
Congratulations!! I have no idea as well, I called my gp and they referred me, I have my appointment on the 20th and I don’t know what to expect.
