Help

Hey yall, so about a week ago i got a black lab mix and shes a great dog over all but will not go potty outside. I will put her outside on a chain for 2 ish hours at a time then bring her back in and she immediately runs to my carpet to pee and poop so i put her back outside. How can i get her to stop only peeing and pooping in the house. Also she was abused by a previous female owner and i think that may have something to do with it aswell. Any tips are appreciated as im the only adult hone 95% of the time with my 2 small children.

don’t put her out on the chain, keep her on leash in the house so she never has the opportunity to mess up. bathroom breaks everytime she acts like she needs to go. reward reward reward as soon as she potty’s outside

Lots and lots of positive reinforcement! Every time she potty’s outside give a treat

Wherever your dog pees, make sure to clean it up really well because they have a really really good sense of smell. When they pee there and smell it, they will think that's where they go to potty. Try every hour instead of every two and take her for a walk instead of letting her run around on a chain. Once she potty's outside, praise her by saying good girl! And give her a treat right away

Also if she poops in the house, pick it up and bring it outside. Let her see that it belongs outside

@Cierra can i just walk her around the house a few times? Taking my kids on a walk isnt very easy lol

You need to engage with your dog to teach them any behaviors! Believe it or not, both eating & going to the bathroom are behaviors; dogs are mostly born knowing how to do those things; but they are not born inherently knowing how you want them to go about doing it

Keeping her chained up for 2+ hours by herself is probably not helping her abusive past at all. I would stop doing that and treat her like a child, take her out after every meal, after she wakes up from a nap, anytime she starts wandering the house just take her out and spend some time with her outside. Reward all good behavior and start creating that bond 💖. She’s probably stressed outside and as soon as you bring her in she feels safe which is probably why she’s going in the house.
