Potty training tips!

My son does 9/10 wees and poos on the potty when he is at home and doesn't have his nappy on. When he has his nappy on he tends to just use that. How do we start to move away from nappies? I don't feel like he is ready for underpants in public yet. I don't really know what the transitional steps are! Advice welcome Thank you

Put a nappy over his underpants when out in public. It'll contain any accidents but also help him feel when he's wet

Just stop using nappies? I completely stopped and just took one with me incase of a poo or I couldn't get to a toilet quick enough. Effectively your child knows it's okay to go in the nappy when it's on. Asking them to not do so is confusing. You could use potty training pants but they feel just like a nappy so it's a little confusing. You could get those porta potty/ urinals or do a wild wee

We just did a couple of days at home without anything on at all. There were accidents on day 1. By day 2 no accidents happened. By day 3 we put pants on. There was a bit of confusion at first, but after wetting these a couple of times, he realised they're not the same as nappies! We are now on day 7 and we can leave the house no trouble, he will hold it. I think the first few days of nappy off at home is vital, so they sort of forget wearing nappies, before you move on to pants. Once the nappies were off with him, we vowed to never go back (apart from night time), putting them back on and off was causing confusion. What worked for our son anyway, I know they are all different. Good luck!

I would just bite the bullet, we started potty training last week and we had 3 days of being literally just at home either in pants or naked and by day 3 he’d cracked it, even did 3 poo’s in the toilet that day which I was always told would come much later than the wee’s! We put pants on him when we’re out, I have a puppy pad in his car seat to protect that from any potential accidents but it hasn’t happened yet, he tells me he needs a wee and holds it until I can stop. I think by chopping and changing between a nappy and not it’ll confuse him.
