Calfresh Interview

For those who have Calfresh, what was the interview like? What questions should I expect to answer? It just caught me off guard because none of the people who suggested I sign up for it (nurses and social workers) mentioned anything about an interview lol.

I’m self employed so I’m order for me to take maternity leave I had to save money months in advance since during that period I knew I wouldn’t make any income. I took 4 months off and the only way I was able to do that was by applying for calfresh because it took one of my main bills away. The interview is easy! It takes awhile but they really just ask who you live with, who you feed, what bills do you have and pay, source of income and proof of income, they usually ask information about your baby daddy ( I felt like they were a tad pushy on child support which was annoying ), and I can’t remember if there’s much more but those were the main ones. You’ll be fine!

I’m not on it now but have been in and last few years and It’s basically just who’s in the household you live in, who you are feeding, income, how much you pay in rent/mortgage and any special situations like if you are a student, or if the other parent is not in the home, how much you have in savings ect. It’s never taken me more than 10 minutes when I’ve done mine.

Just say you only prepare and buy food for yourself and children or husband if you are marrried. Everyone else is a no go or they will count their income. & you most likely won’t be approved.

@Kiara I wonder why they would be so pushy on child support? Like what does that have to do with needing food assistance lol

@Vivianna got it thanks! Not married so that should make things easier

@Jessica I have no clue! They asked about his income and if he supported me in any way or sent me money to buy my baby diapers. My baby daddy and I are together but at the time I applied we weren’t officially moved in together and they were just confused why I wouldn’t go after him for child support and I was like he’s literally my boyfriend I don’t see the point in doing that at this time. I think that they see it in a way where If you got child support maybe you wouldn’t need food assistance.

Also they took away my food stamps when we moved in together so beware of that. Even if you’re not married they count your partners income as yours if you live together.

@Kiara thanks! We don't live together and he hasn't been helping for the last couple months (I have a 3 mo old) so I figured I'd try signing up for this temporarily until I go back to work in a couple months.

@Jessica if you guys don’t even live together that’s 5 stars lmao! Jk but it should be very obvious you guys don’t “ buy & prepare food” together. Which is one of the biggest things they will count as far as how much you will get in assistance. In all reality you want it to be based on your income alone! P.s Im from Santa Rosa so our counties are pretty close in proximity! 💕

@Kiara only if you say you buy & prepare food together! That’s where they get youuu!! Lol it’s so dumb.

@Vivianna I did that and tried to get away with saying we were roommates and living together for childcare purposes and they still snatched it away 😅 I only work 2-3 days a week to be able to stay home with my son as much as possible so I was hoping I’d still get it but it’s alright lol.

@Kiara haha I did the roomate thing too😂 I guess we aren’t the first or the last to pull that one! The regulations are so extra🥴
