High sugar levels

Hi everyone, I am almost 17 weeks pregnant and had an appointment with the midwife today, and according to my urine sample she asked if Ive been eating a lot of sweets as the sample result showed it was quite high. I’ve been booked in for a glucose test in couple months time, and I’m worried if the baby or me get diabetes. Can the sugar levels be reduced / controlled before the glucose test so that there’s nothing to worry about?

Yes, it can be controlled before your appointment. Try and reduce your carbs and sugary food. Take a 30mins-1hrs walk a day to burn calories. Avoid fruits that are high on sugar.. take more avocado, cucumber, and pears as your snacks. Most importantly, drink enough water and don't eat late night food. That helped me during my time

I had raised sugars in my urine one time but my sugar levels themselves were fine, no GD my whole pregnancy and I was high risk for it with a strong family history of both type one and two diabetes. Try not to worry. But yes, you can control them with foods etc. if you're worried, I would start now. Good luck mumma

i had high protein sugar levels a few times during pregnancy, drinking tea or sugary drinks or even eating toast can spike the sugar levels the glucose test is mandatory for all women during pregnancy at around 26 weeks if i remember correctly. if the results are positive u may have gestational diabetes which is managed by changing your diet will not effect baby other then the babies weight potentially, some women are induced a week or two early just because of the size being big
