Potty training

Anyone started it? Completed it? Any advice. Honestly as a single mum working full time I’m just dreading it, I’m just about managing to keep the house tidy as it is let alone having to clean up wee of the floor constantly. Both myself and the childminder have been sitting him on the toilet and he understands the act of wiping but not sure how to incorporate a more rigid structure…

I have not, because my eldest boy was a slow starter but mastered it super quickly and my youngest is just not ready. We have the potty because my eldest still uses it but he shows absolutely zero interest in it. He tells me when he's done a poo so I know its getting closer but I just have no reason to rush the process

After having a potty out for a few months, prompting her to sit on it at every nappy change, we just took the plunge one day and done bottom naked. She had accidents that day, but I just calmly told her that we need to sit on the potty. I also prompted her every 20 or so minutes. If you have some puppy pads, put them on the sofa as we had a few accident so there. We take a travel potty every where we go, always ask if she needs to use it before we leave anywhere. I have a puppy pad in her car seat which came in very handy the one time she had an accident on there. The only time she has a nappy is for bedtime and nap at nursery. I have not put a nappy on her in the day since the day we took the plunge. Now and again she has some worse days with accidents, but mostly she’s been doing great. We are maybe 1.5 months in now.

@Jodie I’m not in a hurry either… just guess I’m looking for a bit of validation lol I do feel like the more language he obtains and uses the easier it will be …

I'm trying but I don't think my little boy is ready yet x

I keep seeing the "oh crap" potty training book recommended, so I've just bought it today! Apparently answers a lot of questions and gives a clear way to do it.. I have absolutely no idea where to start so I'm hoping it helps!

@Laura please comment back here with a review lol I just read this blog about a mum of six who mastered doing it over a weekend by child number 3

It gets delivered tomorrow so I'll try and remember haha

I found the book excellent as well. Didn’t have a clue what to do but everything in the book made perfect sense. We’re less than 2 weeks in and it’s going v well. I just followed everything in the book. You do need to commit to some time in the house initially, I took three days off work and weekend. First few days were very intense as you have to be watching them constantly and doing absolutely nothing else but it worked so was worth the pain I would say!

My little girl was potty trained at 26 months and now toilet trained. We have a 3 month old and didn’t want to be doing double nappies anymore. We did have to commit a full 5 days in house and garden for her to learn. It’s slow steps but once they get the hang of it, it just gets easier and easier. We started with potty and when she was confident with that we then bought toddler steps to use a toilet.
