Advice needed

This is quite a long rant, so I apologize in advance!! Basically I have lost all trust in my GP and midwife. I'm 22 weeks pregnant and have had my bloods done around 4 weeks ago, they came back abnormal for my liver function test and when I've googled this, it can be a sign of early preeclampsia. The GP couldn't speak to me for 2 weeks as they were busy and when he spoke to me he advised that my cholesterol was a little elevated and when I mentioned my pregnancy he was shocked to hear I was pregnant and told me not to follow the advice he had sent me. He also said he wasn't trained enough to discuss preeclampsia with me. So I made an appointment to see my midwife, which again was a 2 week wait as she only works one day a week. Today the doctors receptionist have called me and explained that my midwife has cancelled my appointment tomorrow because she cannot discuss my concerns with me (why can't a midwife discuss preeclampsia with me, when I have symptoms) and has told me to book a GP appointment. The GP himself has already said he cannot discuss this with me. So I'm very annoyed and now even more concerned. There is only one midwife at my surgery, so I cannot request another one. All I wanted was my urine and blood pressure checked and for her to reassure me a little bit. Any advice on what I can do in this situation?

This sounds awful! Sorry to hear this. You could call the maternity ward at your local hospital. The midwifes there will answer any questions you have but maybe they can book you in for tests considering your blood test results!

Thank you both 😊 I will do this now and see if they can offer some advice.. It's such an anxious time being pregnant for the first time!! X

That is absolutely outrageous. If you don't get a reasonable answer contact PALS and explain everything that has happened. Hopefully that will get the ball rolling and you'll get the answers that you need. I hope that it's not preeclampsia. Hoping for the best.

I would call your midwife at the hospital. They will take your concerns and get them checked by a doctor and possibly ask you to drop in so they can assess you. Hope you get some answers Xx

I would call triage at the hospital (the number is in my pregnancy passport) x

Could you call the midwife base at the hospital you are registered with? You may need to be consultant led anyway

Oops just read other replies haha

I’d be more concerned with Cholestasis of pregnancy (liver condition in pregnancy) than preeclampsia. Have you not got a pregnancy helpline or triage at your hospital you can call?

I have spoken to a midwife in the hospital and they don't seem to be too concerned, apparently headaches and seeing lights/dots at 22 weeks is a normal pregnancy symptom..My blood pressure is fine which is good! I haven't heard of Cholestasis of pregnancy before, I am going to try and get a GP appointment in the morning (even though I think it's pointless) so I will bring it up with him and hopefully he can give me more advice.

@Rachel glad to hear you got some answers! It’s such an anxious time. Wishing you and baby a healthy pregnancy x

I'd ring 111 or if you really think preeclamsia go urgent care centre near you x

@Rachel my midwife told me seeing lights and dots isnt normal at all and if it happened with headaches to go straight to a&e!

@🩷Hannah💙 I didn't think it was a normal symptom to be honest. Luckily I've had no vision issues for 2 days now, my blood pressure is normal as well, which is good. But I will be keeping an eye on all of the symptoms and I will definitely call 111 if I think they're getting worse. It really is such a worrying time 😞.

Definatly do if you start getting anything visual with headaches as my midwife said its super important to get checked over if that happens x
